Merry Christmas Beth,

As promised here are some shots of my palette. Just keep in mind that these colors are specific to the complexion of my client.

Oh Marvin, I am hoping that somewhere there is a palette image with some skin tones artfully mixed?

Santa baby... OK. I won't sing it again! :santa:

Elizabeth Schott 12-24-2004 12:03 AM

Marvin do you mix the Terra Rosa with the Indian Red sometimes? I have found to use these in the same value works well for turning a form instead of jumping to another dark or light.

Thanks you again, I won't tell my family what a great present this is!

Marvin Mattelson 12-24-2004 12:13 AM

Yes I mix terra rosa with indian red. I mix everything with everything as long as the value is the same.

Marvin, Thanks for showing that! I also want to know about the actual palette under the paint! What is that made from? I've never owned a big fancy palette. (Most of you would faint if you saw the way I went about things.) I usually just use a paint box that I can seal up when done to keep my paint fresh until the next session.

Thank you Marvin, this was exactly what I was hoping for.

Your system is brilliantly simple, mixing the different colors freely within the fixed value. And without getting a mess allover the palette.

Thanks again, Allan.

Marvin,

Thank you for that WONDERFUL holiday present.

However I do feel guilty stealing so much valuable information from a truly gifted artist. It has made a WORLD of difference in the quality of my work and how I approach painting.

Marvin, Warmest Holidays Wishes to you, your wife and your sons..

Marvin Mattelson 12-24-2004 11:58 AM

Mary, it's a balanced wooden palette made from marine grade plywood. I get mine unfinished from Lee Boynton www.artpalettes.com (410)268-4263. I paint it an exact middle value neutral gray because it's very important to have a middle ground to see colors objectively. Paint cannot be left on it overnight.

Marvin Mattelson 12-24-2004 11:59 AM

Alan I'm glad you find this useful.

Sharon, it's nothing compared to the gift of your friendship.

Elizabeth Schott 12-24-2004 04:27 PM

Hello Sharon... I believe this was MY wonderful holiday present!

Out of the spirit of the season, I will re-gift to you and Allan though!

HoHoHo :)

Mary you can find a not as nice but still great palette that is balanced and the same size as Marvin';s at this place:

The cost is considerably less.

Sorry Chris, this one should work, they must have rearranged their pages.
