Rembrandt interpretation
 

I painted a segment of Rembrandt's "Simeon and the Child Christ in the Temple". It does not pretend to be an exact copy but an interpretation and an attempt to emulate his technique.

I would have picked up any Rembrandt painting, because my purpose was to try to find out how to reproduce his technique, which as we know is everyone's guess. Young Rembrandt and his friend Jan Lievens made many experiments with oil paints and different mediums to produce startling effects in their paintings, unfortunately those "secrets" were lost in time. Trying to figure out how he did it is a real challenge.

Very Impressive! Where did you get that great frame which really sets off the style?

An appropiate frame is like an appropiate dress for an special occasion, the painter is the most appropiate person to suggest or to find the appropiate frame for his paintings instead of leaving out to the client. Well, the frame I used for this painting did not cost me a fortune because I bought a ready made frame from Hobby Loby for $25.00 (it was 40% off); because my painting has an odd size, I chose a frame that was a little larger and then I took it to a place ("Little Gallery"), where they cut it down to make it fit, for $12.50.
