Portrait of Dina

Dina is a friend of mine, an exchange student from Germany. A very cool, stylish and confident person with an attitude. Dressing in black and using a lot of hair wax are her trademarks.

Into The Twenty First Century!

Isabel,

This is a very accomplished, wonderful, direct depiction of a dramatic 21st century Woman.

No lace, soft focus, florals. Prickly waxed hair and a direct no nonsense look. I love it!

Bravo!

Isabel,

This is very powerful! I am enjoying studying your exquisite style, very striking and bold. Can you share with us some of your tools and techniques, what kind of paper, and pencils/charcoal were used? Any stumping? It almost looks like you used a paintbrush for some of the nuances of skin??

Very accomplished piece,
Pat

Thank you Patricia and Sharon for the kind words.

Patricia, I used mechanical pencils with 2H and 2B leads for the whole drawing. The paper is Arches Hot Press 300 gsm. As for the smooth blending, I used blending stumps. I painted the background using 2B mechanical pemcil, blended with tissue and blending stump, then used a kneaded eraser to remove some of the graphite.

Isabel, beautiful drawing, everything about it. Incredible handling of graphite. Waiting for more!

Isabel, this is such a strong drawing, she's "in your face" and beautifully rendered.

Isabel,

Terrific portrait! You have handled the shadows with a beautiful transparent touch, and have a clean, strong composition as well.
