Shop light?
Moderator's note:
In an attempt to move the most recent posts under the topic "shop light?," from another thread entitled "too paint from life," I have apparently managed to delete the entirety of both threads. My apologies to all concerned. If anyone has the ability to repost these latest offerings please do so here, or, if you would like help (as if from me) reposting the other thread please contact your local phone company. I expect articles of impeachment to be forthcoming. |

It's possible that the annals of art history will scarcely mention this incident. |
To dream the impossible dream, sure.
To fight the unbeatable foe, apparently. To bear with unbearable sorrow, OK. To right the unrightable wrong, please. To fight when your arms are too weary, I guess. To love pure and chaste from afar, forget that. To modify without fear of deletion, This is my quest to follow that star, no matter how hopeless, no matter how far. And the world will be better for this, that one man scorned and covered with scars, still strove with his last ounce of courage, to reach the unreachable starrrrrr. Now everyone. |
Oh well . . .
Hi Mike,
Oh well, things happen. If my printer were working I would have printed out a lot of this information. I read all the info in this (that) thread about studio lighting and I'm ready to go to Home Depot and buy one of those long shop lights and hang it from the ceiling near my easel. But . . . . I'm not sure what kind of lights (tubes) to get. I scribbled down "'Sylvania Sun Stick' flourescent tubes or other "full spectrum" flourescent tubes." And if the Kelvin temps are available on the packages I think I need around 5000-5500 Kelvin. That much I can remember. Steven, what were the two you were so happy with? If you could just post the name of those two, the ones with the info at the bottom of that digital post you so kindly posted. I think I will buy 2 or 3 different kinds of lights and then just see what works best for me. I realize now how dark my studio (fancy word for my half of our computer room) is. thanks, Joan |

No inconvenience at all
Mike,
No inconvenience at all! Mike, thank you for all the information you post and all the work you put into this forum. And, you make me laugh every day that I get on this forum with your great sense of humor. I will take a look at these other threads that you so kindly found for me. I guess for Mother's Day I'll be at Home Depot picking out my gift - a brand new 'shop light'! Joan |

Joan, here are the images with the specs on the lights I'm using.
I am not necessarily championing these. They're just something I'm trying right now and I think they're working out fine. You will find very successful artists who say never use fluorescents, other say always use them, others think a mix of fluorescents and tungsten is ideal, and others have the big bucks invested in photo-studio lighting. I can't begin to sort it out for you, other than to say that my procedure is to try a variety of arrangements, see what works, call that my story and stick to it. |
