She is only a fragment of a large pastel, 84"x41". She is another dancer, but alas, she is nude on top, so I cannot show the rest.
She is wearing a magenta skirt against an antique teal silk Chinese tapestry. I get a great deal of inspiration from Asian art and their color sophistication, in my opinion, far exceeds a good deal of what has been done in the west. There are of course, exceptions, a few of my favorites being, Turner, Frieseke, Monet and Degas. |
Sharon, you are unbelievable! I can't wait to see an oil, but then I am wondering why you would put the pastel dust away after producing these beautiful works!

Thanks Dearie, much appreciated! I am putting them away only for the next piece. The background is a complex chinoiserie print that would drive me cuckoo to do in pastel. I have not painted in a while, I want to see if I still can, and I want to experiment with a new skintone palette. This is a great place to snoop around for ideas. I had a panel made, they ain't cheap, I made some changes to the original concept and now it won't fit. |
This is just wonderful, fragment though it is. Would it be possible (and with moderator's permission) to provide a link to a full view of this large piece? The description of the rest makes me more curious than ever.

Thanks for your kind comment, it is much appreciated. |
Sharon, I love the elegance and attitude in this piece. The teal and magenta combination is unexpected - you say "sophisticated", I say, "va-voom." [You say 'tomato, I say 'tomahto'...] Congratulations on another successful pastel!
I, too , would love to see the rest of this. |
Wow Sharon. I could just imagine how incredible the rest of it must be. Once again, I love that light patch directly under the rose. Beautiful style. I have a small set (all I could afford ;C ) of Giraults on it's way, you've inspired me.

All I started with was a $300 set of Senneliers, all I could afford, that was 5 years ago. Linda, I appreciate your support, thanks. The colors come right off that exquisite tapestry I bought. |
OK Sharon, when would be the best time for me to come stay a while? Just give me time to arrange a sitter and I will be there. You are the one that got me on this pastel path, so now you will help me finish.( Just kidding.) This is absolutely beautiful, I like her better than the first if that is possible. Would you email the whole image to me?
She reminds me of Sargent's "Lady Agnew". |
Sharon,
This is a very elegant piece. I love that confident expression she has and the lighting just seems perfect. I too would love to see the rest of this. |
