Untitled - peasant girl

40" x 30", oil. Michele mentioned the background taking over in WIP. It has taken over even more. I am not sure I mind. Please tell me what you think about that, or anything you notice that may need help.

I apologize, the photos are not as clear as they could be.

With the new upgrade, you can now add attachments to your original message instead of having to post again. Nice feature!

Hi Kim,
I was just looking at your photos posted in the other thread and this was my favorite one - I am happy to see it coming along beautifully. I just love your work, obviously cannot critique, but did want to tell you how much I admire your work...

Happy painting!

Patricia,
Thank you very much. Of course you can critique! Do you think the background took over too much?

Not at all. I really like the setting and she is posed delightfully enjoying her surroundings, so there seems to be a communication between nature and the young lady. Think there is atmosphere that pulls you in. Can't wait to see it finished.

Actually, yes. I'd like to see more color perspective used, so the background recedes better. Very nicely painted, but needs that depth.

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I am not sure what to do to push it all back, except maybe a glaze over all the background for a hazey look. I'll keep plugging away.

Don't re-work the painting based on what an amateur on the internet told you. If you agree with my opinion, then keep the concept in mind when you do your next painting. Re-working paintings is scary and risky. I'd hate to see it get messed up.

Thanks Jeff, but I agreed with you so I did do a sort of glaze. It's in the Unveilings if you want to look. If I didn't agree with you I would not have changed it. I think amateurs as well as professionals can critique and give useful comments. My husband for example is dead-on with his critiques, yet he can't paint a thing. You don't have to be a painter to be able to see.

About re-working paintings - I used to be scared to death of it, but not anymore. There was this fear that I would make it worse or what if I can't get it back again? I just over came it by realizing it wasn't an accident that I got it right in the first place so I can do it again and better each time.
