'Hacel' finished from works in progress

Hi, this is the finish of the piece I had in 'works in progress'. It is graphite/white pastel pencil on 19" x 13" Canson paper. The color is 'Moonstone'. Thanks for looking.

Jimmy, what a lovely, contemplative piece. It looks like you've captured her beautifully, and your delicate lines do an excellent job of delineating her form. I also like the way you've focused attention on her face and softened the body and arms. Good job!

This is my new favorite! I really love the light as it moves across her features, and it matches her expression. This portrait really invites one to stay awhile and ponder with her!! You are so good at conveying emotion, Jimmie! And your handling of light is so beautiful. I sure look forward to meeting you someday. Maybe it will be this summer if my son, Kevin, travels to New Jersey to see you about a tattoo! That is if he doesn't mind travelling with his mama (actually we always enjoy small trips together). He visits your website and here to see your new drawings I am always talking about...I think he emailed you a while back.
Your work is so beautiful, keep creating and keep posting. Nice to see an "older than 20..." portrait model! I would love to see what you would do with a woman fully in her forties!!! |
I've been watching this one with interest. I believe this is your finest work yet.
I keep a large collection of art images on my hard drive for regular study. I've added a folder for all of your drawings. I never get tired of looking at them. |
Just Beautiful

Jimmie, I've been looking at your work for a long time and enjoying seeing it so much. I've been drawing quite a bit lately also and I learn from every drawing I see. I've learned a lot about creating depth and turning the face from your latest drawing displayed here of Hacel. Thanks so much and please keep my album growing! Until I get a better way of reproducing my drawings into photos to post I will not be able to post mine. I seem to lose so much detail and also the lights I use or don't use wash out the details in the highlights. Do you manipulate your drawings in photoshop before uploading them here (I do not mean this in a negative way, either - just enhancing the light/dark ratio)? Denise |
Thanks to all of you for such kind words.

Ofcourse, if you are in your forties, and happen to be with your son when he gets tattooed, you can sit for me. And you're gonna have to because you brought it up! ;) If anyone reading this in their forties is thinking "I sure would like to help Jimmie with his portfolio, maybe I can send him a very clear non-formal picture of myself to him, but in no way expect payment as I would do this for art's sake." Then that would be nice too. I am very flattered that you both have included my work in your collection. Am turning red as we speak. Quote:
Thanks again. |
Bravo Jimmy! Another wonderful rendering!

Jimmie, I remember your first post ( I think ) of your daughter. You have gotten so much more sophisticated and accomplished. Jimmie, try some color, that I would love to see you do! Sincerely, |
Thank you Beth and Sharon,
Sharon, good memory and thank you. I think I've grown a bit more comfortable while working. Charcoals still make me nervous and the thought of doing pastels again also. I have a couple of pieces planned, but I do pastels in the attic which is freezing during the winter and I can't get comfortable. I bought a heater, but I'm still up there with a light jacket and uncomfortable, so I'm concentrating on my drawings. Hopefully in the next couple of months I'll be up there again. Thanks. |
Sorry to dig this thread up. This is too gorgeous, It has so much life, so much emotion.....I just couldn't resist :)
Jimmie, I must tell you, THIS drawing is my all time favourite of yours! Honestly, this is one of the BEST drawings I've seen in my life and I'd seen heaps, mind you. I have 2 favourite graphite artists, one is my mentor Armin Mersmann, the other one is you! The drawing itself is a wonderful work of art and it speaks volumes! In my opinion, your work is even more beautiful than a finished painting. Well, this is how I feel, I don't know what else to say... Kudos |
