Anthony Ryder's Workshop Figure Drawing

I promised to report back from Anthony Ryder's Figure Drawing workshop in W Palm Beach the end of January. It has taken me over a week to get my life back to some semblance of normal. In a nutshell, his workshop was extremely enlightening for me. Being that I am mostly self-taught and only able to take night classes and work on portraiture evenings and weekends the luxury of drawing every day, all day, for five days was remarkable.

Tony began the day with a two hour lecture/demonstration. I have attached a pic of his drawing. As this was a figure drawing class I will limit what I post, image wise. I found Tony to be very instructive, very entertaining, while teachng soo much.

I have also posted a pic of the model I drew from and my "portrait". There were 18 students and two live models. The models posed exactly the same for all five days and we worked on one drawing all week, so that at the end of the week 25 hours had gone into the drawing. And mine is definately NOT finished.

Tony's work is very meticulous, sensitive, and breathtaking to see him at work. I would highly recomment his workshop for any pencil portraitists!!

I would have to say, for my own experience, that I feel I arrived in Fla an accountant aspiring to be an artist and feel I returned an artist aspiring to work full time at my craft!!!

... I returned an artist ...
That's about as resounding a recommendation as I could imagine for a workshop. Thanks for posting your summary and photos.

Hi Michele,
I hope someday to be able to take the two week painting workshop you attended. My goal is to start working in color this summer. Seeing all the work you do (I love your paintings) and others here, I am so eager to begin painting.
