Yet another Georgian

Hello Everyone,
I'm so pleased to join this forum. What an amazing resource. Just recently I've begun pencil portraiture. I've been pleased to have had a very positive reception from the people who've seen my work - several of whom are professional full-time fine artists (not portrait artists) - but I realize that I have so much to learn. Hi Katherine,
That's a lovely, sensitive piece. Thanks for posting it, and welcome to the forum. If you're getting into pastels, I recommend Daniel Greene's pastel video where he draws "Jim". I was staggered by the number of pastels he keeps on hand for his work. Looks like a huge investment, but maybe you could start with a monochromatic palette and build up to the huge pastel collection you'll need. But I'm rambling. Have fun here, and post more drawings. Hi Katherine - Welcome!
'Lily' is coming along beautifully! Hope you'll update us when she's done :) |
Thank you for the welcome, Jeff and Terri. I've been coming here for several days, and there's so much valuable information that it's a little overwhelming. Where to start?
Perhaps - if you'd like - you could both tell me a little bit about your first few commissions. If you'd prefer not to, or if you've already posted said info, I understand. If so, would we need to move to another section? Or should I just go to another section, read more about artist's first commissions than I have? I've already picked up some valuable information here, and I'm hungry for more. Now that I can post, I feel like Charlie in the Chocolate Factory. Omitting the sections re: the juicing machine, Mr. Slugworth, etc., of course. |
Dear Katherine,
Let's start a new thread in the Cafe Guerbois, called "First Commission". I'll set it up, just check in. A warm welcome to you. |
