Hi,

This is about 16x20 on light gray Stonehenge, graphite with a little Nupastel white highlight. Thanks for looking.

p.s. The contrast is a bit strong especially towards the right where it photographed lighter. Sorry. :(

Jimmie,

That's an amazing drawing! I didn't realize Nupastel would work well with graphite.

Jimmie, this is another terrific drawing. You should post these in "Unveilings" and maybe over in the "Business" section, asking the question, "How can I market these?"

I can't say enough good things about your work, Jimmie. Top drawer all the way (get it?)

Thanks guys,

I use the white sparingly, but it looks very nice with graphite, especially on darker paper. I tried pastel pencil, charcoal pencil and white conte, but Nupastel white worked the best. It can be sharpened with an X-acto blade to a point.

Linda, thank you. The unveiling section discourages critiques, and I wasn't sure if cross-posting was frowned upon in here. I'll give the business section a shot. These aren't commissioned though, I'm doing these for my portfolio which I plan to submit to galleries. I could use advice with it, but I also wouldn't mind doing graphite commissions as I've gotten very comfortable with them. Thanks again.

Jeff, once again, thank you for your kind words!

Great work, Jimmie! Are you using graphite sticks? This looks like a flash photo. Usually, I would discourage front lighting, but what can I say? It works!

Jimmie Arroyo 10-27-2003 01:08 AM

Thank you Lon. Not sure what you mean by graphite sticks, are those the woodless ones? If not, then I have'nt heard of them, but I do use woodless pencils which don't seem different than the regular ones other than the feel while holding it. Yeah, I gotta work on my lighting. I have a simple kit with two strobes, but the space I work in isn't great either. Someone I work with may help me with lighting pointers. Hopefully!
