Hi everyone,

I am very grateful to be a new member and looking forward to learning a great deal.

I have attached a picture of myself to be included in my bio. I am not sure if this is the proper place to do that or not, but I'm sure I'll find out soon enough.

Thanks,
Mark

Mark,

Welcome! This would be a good place to tell other members about your past experience in portraiture and perhaps what your future plans are along with a sample of your work.

Hi everyone,

It was suggested that I post a sample of my work and give a little info. I began painting a few short years ago. Until recently, my work has consisted of landscapes in oil. I am now very interested in figure and portraiture. I recently painted the following 30" x 24" oil on canvas from a 5" x 3" photograph. I don't recommend painting from a photo, particularly such a small one, however I was moved by the photo and I wanted to see how a painting would turn out. I also don't have a model to work with yet.

This is a poor digital picture of the painting but it is all I have right now. The model's hand resting in her lap was not positioned well in the photo and I knew it would give me trouble, and it does.

In any case, I look forward to learning as I participate as a new member of this Forum.

Thanks for reading,
Mark Lovett

Hi Mark

Hey, I'm from your neck of the woods - northern Virginia. (Vienna to be precise). But the weather here in Southern CA has spoiled me.

Lovely painting. It's amazing you got all that out of a 3" X 5" photo. Good job!

David
