Pino - Chris Saper's suggestion

Beth,

Knowing you are a Pino fan, have you seen the frames he's been using for the past couple of years? I think it might be great for this painting. For your painting, the scale would be similar to the gold sample you showed above, but the frame is a matte black wood (no ornamentation, just simple mitered corners -- preferable filled -- with a gold-leaf thin band set slightly out from the rabbet.) A fillet could work, but for the look to work, the gold has to be matte, too. I haven't seen frames like this in catalogues, but I thought of it right away for this charming piece.
This was a suggestion that Chris made a lifetime ago for a small oil I had done.

This week I was in Bloomfield Hills, MI and had to chance to visit a gallery with a ton of Pino's. I am not sure if this was the frame that Chris refered too, but they were all framed a like. Simple black with black beads (I can't remember the technical name), I was surprised to see a larger, at least 1 1/2 inch linen liners too.

I have tried to do a rough illustration of the frame, please don't hold me too it, Chris maybe you can tell me if this is close?

I've seen a Pino in a frame like Chris described as well.

I've bought a few of these at a gallery/frame shop in Denver for some landcape paintings I have - they look great (high quality) - very classic. Here's the link for their framing website to see some examples - they have a few different frame designs in black with gold leaf.

The prices the lady had on these were very reasonable so now I am guessing they must have been reproductions, thus the cheaper frame too.

It all makes sense now, I like the one you guys are talking about much more.
