Tutorials
I expect everyone here is a professional, Or at the least very experienced portrait artist. I have Chris Saper's book which is indispensible and very informative.
Do any members give tutorials or can suggest online portrait tutorials? Thank you in anticipation. Geraldine Nesbitt |
Hi, Geraldine,
I moved this post to this thread, thinking that you might find additional useful information here. I considered the "workshops" thread, but since you're in the UK, that might not be useful (though SOG artist Peggy Baumgaertner happens to be in the U.K. right now, giving a portrait workshop -- maybe she'll return next year and you can sign up!) Anyway, be sure to check out the reviews of books and videos listed in this thread, and look at the Subject-specific Demo area accessible from the home Forum page. As a web browse, you might enjoy working through Tony Ryder's portrait demo, (click on the red text to be taken there), just one of many such internet presentations. As I recall others, I'll try to supplement this post. Your own countryman, Alwyn Crawshaw, has produced many painting and drawing videos and books that have greatly inspired me. (I guess I don't know if he ever did portraiture.) Cheers |
Having just found this message in my mail box, I apologise for not replying sooner.
Thank you for your reply and helpful information Regards, Geraldine |
Geraldine,
I highly recommend books/videos by John Howard Sanden. I have all of his books and all of his videos (just recently purchased his video of his copying of Sargent's "Lady Agnew"). His approach is very direct and very practical in my opinion. His website is www.JHSanden.com. Many of his books/videos can be purchased off Ebay. There are usually items there daily. |
