Galkyd lite?

Hi,

I used a thin coat of Galkyd Lite and Odorless mineral spirits to "even" out the dull spots on a recently dry to the touch painting. The dull patches are vibrant again, however depending on the angle you look at it, the sheen from the galkyd is not very even looking. Is it ok to put another coat on?

Usually it is best to "oil out" a painting when there are some really sunken in areas, before any top coat of varnish or the like is applied.

I know it's too late to do that with this painting, though. I can't see any downside to applying more Galkyd Light. You may want to apply a thin, but full strength coat this time -- ie with no mineral spirits mixed in. That will give you more gloss.

Thanks Michele

I tried the Galkyd Lite coat based on a suggestion from Bill Whitaker a while back. I did put a little more on and think it looks better. At least it looks ok enough that I feel fine about letting the client have it until 6mos to a year before I can put a final varnish.
