Ott light and Verilux mixture?
 

I have read through the other discussions about lighting in the studio and find them helpful but not quite what I need. I am interested if anyone has heard about using a swivel Ott light with a Verilux on either side of it mounted on a board above the easel. Supposedly this gives a nice balance of cool and warm light. I am desperate for consistent light on my painting. It must be an age thing but it is getting harder for me to read the correct temperatures of my colors. Help!

I have not used a lighting setup similar to what you suggest, but here is another thought. I paint in the kind of light that my paintings will ultimately be hung in: that is, standard household lighting augmented by window light, not perfectly even, color corrected light.

If I can get my paintings to look good in everyday household lighting and all the variations that come from the window lighting, then I figure the odds are good that they will look alright in my clients' homes.

The last thing I want is to create a terrific painting under a special lighting setup in my studio and then find that the colors are all wrong when seen under regular household lighting.

The CRI (color rendering index) indicates the accuracy of color perception under a particular light source. Ott and Verilux are rated somewhere between 90 and 94CRI. Combining two lesser quality lights will not assist the accuracy of either. Two wrongs do no make a light! (sorry, couldn't resist.)
