February 19, 2003 Mattelson Portrait DemonstrationConnecticut Society of Portrait Artists Faces of Winter Portrait Festival.
Marvin dazzled all who attended. First, the demonstration from the model was achieved with impeccable preparation, virtuosity and 22 brushes! Then his slide tour of the portraits at the Met impressed even John Howard Sanden. Marvin avoided historical rhetoric and focused on what attendees all wanted to hear: "How did they do that?" From both sessions we learned how values, edges, chroma, contrast, and texture can be played alone or in concert to make a portrait sing. Humble and grateful thanks, Marvin. Hi Jeanine,
Could you give some details about the projection method you used during this demo. It can be difficult to get a good seat during a demo, and this event looks like it was very professionally produced. And Marvin, that's a gorgeous piece. |
Jeanine,
You are far too kind, but I gratefully accept your generous words of praise. You, Jeanine, are the one who really deserves to be commended. You have created an association for Connecticut portrait artists out of a total void. In less than 1 1/2 years, through your boundless energy and unwavering enthusiasm, you have established an organization that not only promotes portraiture to the public, but provides both support and educational opportunities for its members as well. You have established an exceptionally competent and spirited support staff that deserves to be applauded for the time and effort they contributed in make Faces of Winter the great success it was. It was an honor and a pleasure to share my passion for portraits with you and your members. I |
