This is a 20" x 16" colored pencil on toned Stonehenge paper. I debated on whether or not the bears and the stroller were too much, but in the end I am glad I included them. The screen in the back is an antique oriental piece and I really struggled with all of that "reddish" wood. In the end I decided not to include all of the intricate carving on the front of it.

Rebecca,

Beautiful job, the fur on the stuffed animals is very nicely textured. This must have been a great deal of work. I'm sure the client was thrilled.

At the risk of making this an all-Louisiana thread, let me chime in. Your painting is lovely. I was surprised to see it in this Forum. It looks like it belongs under Unveilings for the seasoned pro. Are you not a pro?

Alicia Kornick 01-01-2003 02:24 PM

Jeff,

At the risk of sounding biased, just let me say what Rebecca probably won't say for herself. She is most definitely a pro, she has won every major award in our community and has been juried into national shows. Rebecca will also be opening a fine arts school here in Hammond where she will be teaching colored pencils, (her forte), pastels, watercolors and oils. The fine arts center will also have classes in creative writing. It will be open to all levels and ages and the class schedule is filling up fast. I think it will be a huge success. Finally, there will be a place of learing dedicated to fine art exposing the children to this for the first time in their lives, and I cannot think of anyone better to lead them.

I was lucky enough to meet her through this forum and have seen most of her work personally. If not for the fact that she is such a warm and sincere person, willing to share her knowledge of art, I would probably be very jealous.

I second your opinion Jeff, Rebecca's work should be in the Unveilings Section.

:sunnysmil To All,

Thank you all so much for your support. This Forum has been a great place for me to learn and to grow. Because my medium of choice is colored pencil, I sometimes get the cold shoulder from professional artists. Luckily thanks to Ann Kullberg's online magazine (she is also a professional on this site), and some great books published by North Light that showcase the beautiful colored pencil work of Barbara Newton, Janie Gildow and more, colored pencil is rapidly getting the respect in the art world that it deserves.

Thanks again everyone!
Rebecca

p.s. If anyone would like to be a guest artist at the school just let me know. Bringing the world of art to children that would otherwise not be exposed to it is a passion of mine. I encourage everyone on this Forum to donate a couple of hours a month or more to their local school. The teachers, students and parents would greatly appreciate it!
