Hi! I've just become an approved member. I have been looking through the site for a few weeks now. I feel like I know everyone already.
Okay, I'll give you a little background about myself. I'm from and still live in Big Spring, Texas. (Why I came back after college - I'll never know) I graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX with a bachelor's degree in Interior Design. I have decided that was a terrible career mistake, so I am now working as an Ophthalmic assistant. I have always loved art, but I just got into portraits about a year ago. I did a graphite portrait of my son about 8 years ago, but never thought much about it until recently. I have 3 children, so I decided to do a pastel portrait of my daughter. I didn't think it would turn out very great, but I was very surprised. It is shown below. I really need some professional criticism about my portraits (my family always says everything is great). I am planning to practice, practice, practice, and eventually become a full-time portrait artist. That is my ultimate personal goal in life. I hope I can achieve that! This is a pastel (Brianna) about 8"x8" |
Better portrait

Here is a little better picture of my portrait (Brianna). I really need a new digital camera - not enough megapixels.

Hi, Dianna.
Welcome! I love the pastel and I'm not related :) I too have decided that I want to be an artist when I grow up. I have had my own business for 20 years now, and though I can't say it was a wrong career move, I just think that the artist side is taking over. So now I have 2 full-time jobs, but will eventually have to give up one. Guess which one? Take workshops and read everything you can get your hands on. One major thing I have learned is the more I learn, the more I know I don't know-very frustrating and rewarding at the same time. Happy New Year! |
