Patience

Today I delivered and installed half a large window treatment job that I did to finance my art supplies (oil). My husband would have paid for them but I want to do it "my way". So, I have a nice progress payment in my pocket and want to go out immediately (tomorrow) and BUY. I've spent alot of time reading and planning and know that what I want isn't in town, I will have to order on the internet. I know that I need to wait, but I want to dive in tomorrow!

This kind of relates to Marvin's thread on planning ahead. I've read many posts that refer to the process of creating art. The time, organization, practice, and patience involved in learning the necessary skills. So, I'm sitting here typing at one o'clock in the morning to help talk myself out of just going out and buying the first thing I find that can be painted with. Trying to practice some of the lessons that I've learned so far. Patience, patience, patience, my new mantra for the next week or so.

In the Bible there is a verse in James chapter 1, verses 3 and 4 which says, "The trial of your faith works patience; but let patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

That's a beautiful mantra Lon, thanks! I'll say it all day tomorrow as I make my wish list.

The good news is, if you're online at 1 a.m., or 2 or 3 or 5, you can usually find Cynthia at a table here. Order a latte and have a seat. (I know this because at those times it's 2-6 p.m. where I'm at.) However, as sometimes happens, there is as I type this one member (me), zero guests, and zero invisible users on site. (Or maybe that makes me an invisible user, like that unheard tree falling in the woods.) Guess I should sign on at 1 a.m. -- my time -- to catch more folks.

I can't imagine what supplies you're needing that aren't available in Madison. Aren't you in the hottest culture spot between the Cities and Chicago?

When I exercise patience, some people call it procrastination (or worse). Another misunderstood-artist story.
