Successful advertising

I was called this summer by the publisher of a little give-away booklet that is filled with ads that are aimed at mothers. Some of the advertisers were photographers, party producers, dentists, children's clothing stores, etc.. After talking to her I decided to give it a try. The first month of my ad was in was September.

I have gotten probably between twenty to thirty calls. The majority of them I have not heard from again, but four of them are signed contracts and two have already had their pictures taken. The name of the publication is the "Kid's Directory." It is published nationwide. Each area has it's own ads from that area and it's own publisher. It only cost $195/month for a 1/2 a page. Just thought ya'll might be interested!

Thank you for sharing this information. I have contacted them regarding advertising in my area.

This is just a follow-up. One of the clients that I obtained through this advertising just increased the size from a 20 x 24 to a 24 x 36. The November issue has just come out and I have had 5 phone calls in the last 4 days. Two of them have been put on the schedule. For the first time since I have been an portrait painter I have a three month waiting list! 75% of that list came from the advertising in this little magazine! Just thought I would keep ya'll updated!

Rebecca, when I first read your post I did a web search and found the name of the person responsible for publishing the edition for my region. A copy of the previous month's magazine was also available online. However, when I e-mailed her I got back the immediate response that she was no longer publishing it. How disappointing! It sounded as though that magazine targeted a perfect population. Congratulations on your success with it, though. Nice to hear that it's working so well!
