Prix de West exhibit

I just returned from vacation, a visit to my parents' home in Oklahoma, where I expected to be artistically underwhelmed.

However, I was lucky enough to see a contemporary invitational exhibit at the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City, the Prix de West. What beautiful work, and I had the added bonus of my husband and parents, upon seeing the prices listed for the art, encouraging me wholeheartedly (and misguidedly) to pursue this art of art. :o

I took my digital camera and shot through the entire gallery before the security guard informed me that that gallery was off limits, so I'll post some of the subversive photos here for your enjoyment. The exhibit catalog is available from the museum shop here. http://nationalcowboyhalloffamestore...25/512.htm?254

It is money well spent.

The first two shots are a William Whitaker painting (a GREAT artist who sometimes visits this Forum), the last three are from the museum's permanent collection: Fechin, Remington (black and white oil study), and surprise, a Robert Henri.

Re: Willaim Who

You are such a card Tim! :D

You mean the same William Whitaker who is teaching a workshop at the Scottsdale Artist's School next April?

Here are the details for the class:

April 28, 2003 to May 2, 2003
William Whitaker
The Face of Infinity - Capturing the Spirit of the Head in Oil
- Oil
- Intermediate to professional
- Tuition: $450

You can check out their website at:

I suspect that this class is going to fill up fast as Bill does not do much public teaching. This is your chance! You can sign up by calling 800-333-5707.

...and how do you pronounce Whitaker, anyway?

Timothy C. Tyler 09-03-2002 07:15 PM

I read once it was pronounced Whi-taker, but I've heard it said Whit-acre; maybe it's white-ah-ker and is that a soft k? Does anyone really know?
