My Daughter

Here is the first of many portraits (I'm sure) of my daughter. I wonder how many months old she will be before she gets sick of being my model :)

I did this portrait from a photo, but kept her near by to see her skintones from life. I hope the color comes through as a good second-best to the real thing. I just got a new camera and am getting used to its quirks.

Lovely Natalie! (the daughter & the painting! :) )

Natalie Hunsaker 01-02-2010 09:49 AM

Thanks Terri!

Not many people do infant portraits well - I'm impressed.

Love how you've highlighted her reddish hair. Nice color scheme to go with it, composition, skin tones... great!

Claudemir Bonfim 01-03-2010 12:46 PM

Great job again!

Natalie Hunsaker 01-03-2010 02:34 PM

Cynthia, that means a lot coming from you! Thank you a thousand times.

Julie, funny you should notice! It was actually quite a challenge to do her hair and I had hoped the green would be a nice compliment to it.

Bonfim, thanks for your encouraging words!

wow I'm loving it! Her eyes, her skin, her gaze. She is so lucky to have such a great artist as a mother.

Natalie Hunsaker 01-05-2010 03:31 PM

Thank you, Eva!

From a Grandma....a captivating and beautiful painting. Just makes me smile. I love the gesture and you "do" baby well, which is hard to draw or paint a this young of an age. Looking forward to seeing more...

Natalie Hunsaker 01-06-2010 02:03 PM

That was a very sweet comment, Patricia. I've realized that since I only posted this painting--and that it's only number one of a series I'm doing--it may seem strange that I painted her with her fingers in her mouth! I'm surprised that without knowing that you still thought it captivating. The fact that it makes a grandma smile, makes ME smile :) Thanks again!

Natalie, if this were part of a large genre scene it could be in a museum. There is a timeless beauty in this portrait of your daughter.

Natalie Hunsaker 01-06-2010 06:39 PM

Wow, Alex. Thanks! That means a lot coming from one as accomplished as yourself.

Garth Herrick 01-07-2010 12:50 AM

Wow, Natalie, this is captivating and magical. Well done! I look forward to the many sequels.

Natalie, I am so pleased to see you post this phenomenal painting of your baby girl! It nearly took my breath away when I saw it in person! She is just a treasure and your portrait of her shows the viewer how much she is loved. I'm clapping my hands for you! BRAVO

Natalie Hunsaker 01-07-2010 08:52 PM

Garth and Mara, thanks for your flattery. Whenever I feel the air leaking out of my head, I'll check back on this forum and re-read your responses to blow it back up again. :)
