Chris Saper Wins First Place!
Congratulations go to Chris Saper, first place winner for Gamblin's Torrit Grey contest! Working with the paint was tricky for those of us who were first introduced to it in her workshop at Scottsdale Artists' School in '08. A $500 materials award was the prize! Hopefully, we can get her to post the painting.

Congratulations!

Kudos, Chris!

Wow, that is great news, Chris! Congratulations! Can you post the painting?

Congratulations, Chris!
Please post an image for us. I think there was more than one color of Torrit Grey this year. The one I got was very different from what others described. Garth |

Thank you all!
Yes, there were two Torrit Greys this year, one of which must have had a lot of pthalos in its mixture - Garth, probably the one you saw. Here is the link to the process I went though, and to the original post of the entry. The Gamblin site will post the winners shortly - Tracy Schact, an Arizona artist, had a beautiful entry. I hope he won something:) |
Nice job Chris, looks like an interesting workshop too.

Congratulations!

Congratulations.

Big congratulations, Chris! Very well deserved.........I like your entry very much and the intelligent "use of colour" by letting the toned ground show through-- very nice!
|
Lovely image, congratulations.
|
Chris, I also like the way you handled the background - it looks almost like textured gold and silver leaf, which is really cool, and the model's pose gives an interesting composition. Very nice - congratulations on your win!
|
Chris, I don't know how you managed it, but it gives the impression of color without actual. Maybe the ground has something to do with it, but I think it is also the way you handled the paint and values. Very cool!

Very nice, Chris. Congratulations!

Dear Chris,
That's Bold! I love the shimmering effect between the transparencies and opacities. A well deserved win! If you can, how would you describe the particular Torrit Grey you used? How deep a value was it out of the tube? It looks like it was inky dark like black. I was disappointed in my tube, because the Torrit Grey was so light in value. It was a warm gray too. Maybe there were three varieties this year! Garth |
Congratulations, Chris. Very nice painting!

Thank you all - the link is now up on the Gamblin site here http://gamblincolors.com/torrit.grey/winners.html
