Thor

Hi,
this is Thor, 6 years. Oil on linen, 40 x 30 cm. |
This is a very nice painting, Allan. I really like the solidity of the t-shirt you have achieved with just the underpainting.
|
Oh, Allan, this is gorgeous. Wonderful surface variety and quality.
I love the temperature shifts that you have on the canvas - they make the painting exciting to view. |
Allan, that is some beautiful painting! Thor is an attractive boy, but there is something more, something in his expression that defies description and it also brings the portrait way beyond the surface level. I love all the violet and green colors in the skin and hair. The highlights are just right, too, very naturally and easily applied and giving the impression of clear light.
|
Beautiful new piece, Allan.
I like the way the energy of the boy is implied by the quick, vibrant strokes of the body/shirt. I like everything about this painting. |
Allan, the portrait of Thor is a excellent! If the parents are good friends I would ask to do more figure portraits of him. He would be a excellent subject to paint.
Grate work Allan! |
I second everyone's words. Great job!
|
Alan,
This is simply beautiful. The child is so alive. Your brushstrokes and use of color are magnificent and the thinner areas of paint on the background and shirt allow this wonderful face to take center stage. Very sensitive painting. Cynthia |
Allan--
I love this painting...both the color and the application are wonderfully handled, and the degree of finish in each area is perfect. Truly a masterful work! |

Fantastic work, Allan, so confident !
I like very much its wide tonal range, from very dark to very light. Those dark shadows are a beautiful way of giving strenght to a very fair boy. I'll have to bomark this painting for future reference Ilaria |
Thank you, all,
Thor is the son of my daughter , Janni, whom I painted with her first child, Freja, as my first "Work in Progress". Time fly. The paint is applied very thinly and the background is only a wash to tint the canvas. I wanted to try out some new brushes that I got from the States ( thank you for the help with that, Alex ) The canvas is smooth because I filled the texture with White paint and let it dry well beforehand, it was almost like a panel regarding the texture, very nice. The texture in the T-shirt is due to the painting knife, in the light. His pose was straight forward on my reference and I changed it to a slightly turning position to get a little movement, he's always moving. ;) I think that I will attempt a figurative with them soon. |
Allen, you paint beautifully.
Peace, |
Great Allan!
This little boy just pops out at the viewer, he is very alive. What more can I say? I love the colors used also. Very nice... |
Allan, the combination of strong paint handling and sensitive color and selective finish makes this a masterful portrait. I'm really very impressed and I wish I had painted this painting! (I seem to be saying this a lot lately, but it's true. What a good painter you are; this is so strong and confident.)

David, Pat and Linda,
thank you for your nice words, I really appreciate your support. I am terribly busy on the roofs and don't paint as much as I'd like, so I enjoy every second when I can. |
Allan, this is absolutely gorgeous! How lucky he is that his Grandpa is an artist.
You need to come down from the roofs more. ;) |
Oh Allan! This is incredible, it pulled a deep breath out of me the minute I saw it. Just beautiful!

I painted him because I think he is a fine kid and I am happy that it shows. :) |
A fantastic portrait, Allan !
I really love this one ! |
Just beautiful.
Very sensitively done, I love the tones and brushstrokes you've used The paintingcaptures his character and energy Can I ask if it took long to complete? |

Margaret, thanks, the painting was done in a day's time, but it took some time before and after to consider if it was OK and HOW I it should be. If I could only stop thinking I would save a lot of time. ;) |
