Here are a few photos from one of my Saturday afternoons, the model's boyfriend has just sent them to me.

You're so brave! How long has you been doing this? From time to time I have a fleeting inclination to pack up my drawing stuff and head to a public place, but so far I've only chickened out. :sunnysmil

Did she like her portrait?

Ilaria Rosselli Del Turco 11-30-2007 05:58 AM

Claudemir, this is very brave, and the drawing from what we can see was going very well !
I think that you should have a real portrait on your easel as an advert, it would show off your work better even if people don't know the sitter.
Please post some of your drawings here if you manage to take a photo at the end

Claudimir, this is terrific! This just lifted my spirits this morning. This is such a wonderful thing to do. Please get yourself an easel since you are going to hurt your arm muscles holding your board like that for long periods of time.

Post your drawings here! What media are you using, and how are you delivering the drawings to your sitters?

Claudemir Bonfim 11-30-2007 12:10 PM

Thank you all for looking.

Julie,

Yes, she liked that very much.

I cannot recall when I exactly started doing it, I did these portraits randomly and for free. This year I started doing them every weekend and I charge a low fee.

If you are considering doing this, I can only say "GO FOR IT!
I always have a lot of fun, even when I'm exhausted. Practice a little before going to a public place, you need to be fast, sitters get bored easily after 15 minutes.

Ilaria,
I did so for some time, but I was more successful when I started using Marilyn as my propaganda.

I'll try to take some photos now. But after finishing one, I'm really excited to start the next one.

Yes, it hurts a lot after 8 or 9 hours. After those photos I started using an easel as you can see in the photo.

I use charcoal and I use hair spray to fix them. Then I roll them up and tape them.

Julie Deane 12-06-2007 12:03 AM

good for you, Claudemir!

There's nothing like taking the art to the streets.

Alexandra Tyng 12-07-2007 10:30 AM

Bonfim,

I'm so impressed! How brave and energetic of you! Doing something like this is beneficial for everyone. You get the practice and a little money, people are entertained, and the model gets the portrait. It looks like a lot of fun, though exhausting.

Claudemir Bonfim 12-10-2007 11:19 AM

Thanks Julie and Alex for the comments.

In fact sometimes that's exhausting but you always get home happy.

It rained a lot here in the last two weekends, I hope I'll be able to draw this weekend.

Chris Saper 12-22-2007 06:54 PM

Yes, wonderful photos, wonderful experience!

Claudemir, no one puts the "open" back in "Open Studio" better than you!

Thank you Alex and Chris, you are always so kind.

Here is a two-year-old kid I portrayed, the photos are not good, but I got a very good likeness. The parents loved the sketch.

Enzie Shahmiri 12-23-2007 02:33 AM

Claudemir,

These photos are great!

Allan Rahbek 12-23-2007 07:26 AM

Bonfim,
it's great to see you in action, the drawings are very fine.
Feliz Navidad :santa:

Claudemir Bonfim 12-23-2007 09:18 PM

Thank you Enzie and Allan.

Ps. Allan, I think you meant to say "Feliz Natal". I actually speak brazilian portuguese and not spanish.

Merry Christmas to all of you.

A 3-month-old baby and her mother.

Julie Deane 01-16-2008 05:45 PM

Now that's a proud mama! Great start - Can you show us the finish too?

Claudemir Bonfim 01-16-2008 06:06 PM

Sorry, I don't have that one.
My friend, who takes the photographs, was really busy that night.
I've already asked him to take closer shots and I'll remember him of that.

Claudemir Bonfim 01-16-2008 06:08 PM

Ps. I like toned paper because I can use white chalk or pastel and the result is great.

Pss.The parents loved the portrait.

One more.

The values in the photo are quite different from the ones I saw from life.
