Sudanese Girl

This painting was done for a fundraiser for Darfur and it will be auctioned off later in the fall. I am hoping that it will raise enough funds to make the effort worth while.
Thanks to Misha, Christy, Julie and Allan to encourage me to push on! I hope I did not disappoint... :) |
Enzie, I believe that this painting will contribute much in many respects. First, it exhibits growth with in your art and it will benefit the less fortunate.
All the best to you |
Lovely, Enzie!
My eye goes right to her face now, admires the red in the clothing, notes the hand, then wanders around the architecture: just the right order, I think. A very expressive face and hand. You've done a great job with this. |

Enzie,
You keep growing. Lovely. |
Thank you everyone. I am happy to hear that you like it.

Very nice work, Enzie. I especially love the hand. It is so wonderfully well drawn! There's a lot of what's good about Durer in that hand - lots of character and excellent observation. Lovely!

Thanks Thomasin! I tried to stick to simple shapes and create form through value changes.

And, I've been meaning to comment on this for weeks - I just love your new avatar! |
Dear Allan, Chris and Cindy!
Thank you for your kinds comments, they are very appreciated. |
Enzie,
I've been watchng this develop in the WIP section and, since you were getting such good advice I didn't have much to add. But now that you've unveiled it I want to tell you how much I admire both the painting itself and the intent behind it. Every time you post, I feel you take a big step artistically. You have fine-tuned the values and level of detail so the focus is clear and yet the setting also reads well. I really like how you've painted the girl. The face and hand are both so expressive and they work together to make a very compelling story. |
Alexandra, I always enjoy your critiques and suggestions, so keep them coming either way. Thank you for your kind comments.
