Steve, this is so lovely!

Very nice, Steve.

Thanks Thomasin and Enzie.

VERY, very nice, Steve. I love the relationship between the figure of the little girl and the chair....the simplicity of the colour scheme..the handling of the face, clothes..everything! I

And that hand on the seat of the chair!
Could you possibly post some closeups (of anything)?...the usual request. Thanks. |
Steve,
Lovely! The composition is so simple and dynamic at the same time. The part of the chair becomes an abstract support for Gracie. Her face is so full of life, and I like the way you've caught what appears to be a fleeting moment. Was it hard to get her to stay still? |
Steve--
This is stupendously rendered, and so simple at the same time. I remember the first original of yours that I encountered in 2000 at PSOA, and that it knocked me flat. This is no exception. |
Very sweet and lovely. The fabric is handled with delicacy and grace.
|
Oh, my, how wonderful, Steve. Could you please post some closeups?
I love the subtlety in your color transitions, and I really do benefit by being able to see them up close. Thank you! |
Lovely, Steve.

I should have thought to post close-ups.
Unfortunately, I only had my old 3 mp camera on hand when I photographed this painting. Hopefully, there won't be too much noise for you. |

Thanks all for your comments.
This was painted from photos I took. She was five at the time of our sitting, too young to sit extensively from life. The chair was a small "woman's" chair which may throw the scale off a little bit. The painting is 26"x30". I find taking photographs of children to be like being the lion tamer at the circus. They're really in control. I just get the light and background set up and do my best to manipulate them. Gracie was a little actress and it went easily with her. |
Steve, this is wonderful! Thanks for the close-ups. I like the way you've set this up, my eye travels from the lower hand, to the upper hand, to her face, down around the curve of her dress and back up through the hands to her face again. I also like the way you've softened her upper hand so our eyes don't get stuck on the edge of the canvas.
