Kim,

I never know how you are going to surprise us when I click on a new painting of yours. This is really serious stuff--amazingly good technically and as a composition and as a powerful image. Again, there is the interplay of title and image that raises more questions than it answers. There's a mystery in the creation of this that goes beyond the sum of the parts. Self-portrait, obviously. It is just plain wonderful!

Kim,

You are unabashedly good! I love this one of yours - I love the red theme, how it frames the figure so well, and the balance of cool tones in the figure - the perfect compliment to the bold use of reds...outstanding!

Makes me want to come up with a Rett Butler quote, but I can't think of any right now. Someone help me...

This is beautiful and tells a delicious story - very cool!

This is so hot! This is one portrait that has nothing wrong with the mouth. Great job, Kim. I have one question, how do you hold that pose and paint at the same time???? ;)

Thanks folks!

Alex, I do like to keep you guessing. ;)

David, after your last one...your compliment means a lot.

Pat....frankly Scarlett, I dont give a d***? :D

Jean, well it was hard let me tell you...with the pulleys and wires and all. :o

Mark, I cant believe you dug up that quote. Im glad to hear you think I hit my mark!

Richard Monro 03-03-2006 03:04 PM

Kim,
No staid ole self portraits for you girl! You are building quite a legacy. Love the composition and how you handled the drapery. I don't know how you manage to keep getting better, but you do.

Kimberly Dow 03-03-2006 03:41 PM

Thanks Richard!

Actually, I would like to point out that Ive used myself in paintings, but never considered any of them self-portraits. I feel it just points to intent. Ive used myself only when I didnt have another model available. Im not very patient..if I have an idea I like to get after it. They are just figuratives that will be for sale, not self portraits. Wish me luck finding more models please! And they need to all have straight hair... curls are a pain.

Richard Monro 03-03-2006 05:51 PM

Kim,
You may not think they are self portraits, However, when they write those big art biographies on the famous Kimberly Dow, THEY are going to call them self portraits from the artist with the non traditional view of self portraiture. I love them and so will THEY.

Linda Brandon 03-03-2006 06:12 PM

This is wonderful, Kim! (Can I say that this is my favorite painting of yours?) Please don't give up painting curls. And like Alex, I love the passionate reds in this painting.

Kimberly Dow 03-03-2006 06:39 PM

Wow, Richard - thank you. Will you be my press agent, please? :D

Why, yes Linda, yes you may say it is your favorite. Thank you!

Kimberly Dow 03-03-2006 07:29 PM

Wigs! Now why didn't I think of that?

Tom Edgerton 03-05-2006 11:14 AM

Kim--

This is terrific...

Kimberly Dow 03-05-2006 01:15 PM

Thank you Tom, I appreciate it!

Garth Herrick 03-05-2006 01:35 PM

Dear Kim,

This is my favorite too; such well choreographed passion! This image calls for a memorable score, with its cinematic presence. Kim, I have no doubt you will stun us with your next OBPC entry in three years.

Garth

Thank you Garth. :)

Julie Deane 03-06-2006 10:15 AM

Wow, Kim! Beautifully done!

John Reidy 03-07-2006 09:06 AM

Kim,

I love it when I see that you have posted something new and this is no exception. From my days when living in Texas,

"Dawg, girl, you're good!"

Kimberly Dow 03-07-2006 01:26 PM

Johm, Im not originally from Texas, Im a Yankee....

the best I can do is to tell you and Julie -

'Thanks, Y'ALL!'

John Reidy 03-07-2006 05:49 PM

I'm not originally from Texas, I just lived their a while. Originally I'm from Oklahoma and, as the great Will Rogers once said, when I moved from Oklahoma to Texas I raised the IQ of both states simulaneously.
