How's your weather?
2 Attachment(s)
Greetings from snowy Philadelphia! I'm sure it's snowier elsewhere along the Northeast corridor, but we have 13 -15 inches of winter wonderland, and that's plenty enough for now. Even thunder-snow occurred last night. I guess I'm enjoying it because we have had next to no snow before this.
How is everyone else fairing? Would anyone like to help me dig out my aged Benz? I don't have a place to pile the snow. Surely others could come up with more picturesque views than these, but I had fun. I had already removed a layer of snow last night, off the car. Stay warm, I need to go back out and shovel a passage to my door. Garth |
Wow Garth,
No snow in Central PA (DuBois). Well, perhaps a light dusting last night . It's actually a beautiful sunny day. Looks like you got it all! Cynthia |
Send some of it our way, Garth! Here in northeast Georgia we are getting a light flurry now and then. The kids WANT a snow day (and so does this teacher!)

OK, I guess I am the one that gets to make all the snow bound folks back east jealous. I just got off the phone with some friends in Connecticut who are shoveling out from a 20 inch snowfall. When I told them I was working up a sweat in my backyard because it is 78F here with bright sunshine, they happily informed me that they are coming for a visit on the 21st. I don't miss the snow and cold one bit.
PS - Don't ask me how I like the weather here in Scottsdale, AZ in July and August. |

Garth,
52F inside? Are you without power also? That gives me the horrors just thinking about it. When I was living in Ridgefield, CT, we had an ice storm that left over an inch of crystal clear ice on everything. We lost power for 8 days and since we lived on the mountain, it took a week for the town to sand the roads to allow us to get off the mountain. We had fun ice skating through the woods to our neighbors houses. Eating by candle light was fun and cooking on the wood stove was kind of interesting also. However, the nights were a nightmare because we had to constantly feed the fire places to keep the house from freezing up. I'll take nice warm (or hot) Scottsdale anyday. Keep warm! |
Hi Richard,
Yes, I have power. I am on the internet! I am just saving on energy costs when I am not actually painting. Gas is a little pricey this year. I'd rather invest the money in more art supplies. Stay warm, Garth |
We have snow here on our Kentucky farm, we've had snow for three days now and it is continuing to fall. Nothing compared to the accumulation that you have but enough to slow us down.
We heat with wood so we are busy keeping the fire stoked, I helped Fred patina four portrait frames this morning and have been running back and forth to the studio applying the finishing touches to three portrait commissions...my studio is separate from the house so we have to stomp off the snow. Stay cozy, Joy Thomas www.portraitartist.com/thomas |

This winter has been relatively cold for longer periods. We had ice glazing for a couple of days and a little snow now and then.
Very nice to look at. I have a rose that is totally out of wack with the season, it refuses to let go..... that |
That's a wonderful rose, Allan. Thanks for sharing those chilly pictures. I think your winter has been generally colder than ours. We have had the warmest January in American history, and now it is suddenly winter for real.
You're an inspired photographer. I like the affinity between the red wash on your stucco and the red rose, all framed in frost. Take care of that rose! Garth |

But last year we had winter. Exactly today, a year ago, we had a snowstorm that grounded us for days. I am sure of the day because we were invited to my nephews birthday and did not show up. We will tomorrow.
There were also the problem of digging the vehicle out from the snow. Allan |
Beautiful rose Allan. Nature just never stops giving us all these wonderful images. It's boring here, grey skies and a dusting of snow left. I wish that snow would have come here, I love it when Mother nature takes over and lets everyone know who the real boss is.

Wow, what beautiful snow photos you guys. I really miss that white stuff (except I never did like having to drive in it).
Phoenix is great this time of year - today I tilled my garden and planted my tomatoes - but before you grow envious and make plans to move here, know that the other three seasons of triple digits get to be a real bore. I much prefer a seasonal change of colorful springs, warm summers, colorful falls, and white winters. One reason we are seriously considering moving back up to Boise after having lived only 7 years here. |
Hot Sun...
Hot Sun and Blue Skies!

Garth,
on the weather forecast tonight they spoke of a front system that had loaded about one meter of snow in Philadelphia and that it was heading toward us.....we should expect it Saturday. This will be your outworn, second hand system. Bonfim, you mentioned once that I seems to like the red color. You |

Ups, I will spend my summer in an Igloo at the cherry red spot.

Grate idea for a post Garth! I especially like the photos. I quite enjoyed the warm California weather while visiting the US some years ago. Spent two years traveling the US and enjoyed every moment. While visiting France the coastal town La Rachel where Bouguereau spent time and the hillsides near San Trope were my favorites. Now, I live in relatively small town near Bad Homburg near Frankfurt and love it when it snows. A month ago or so when we had our first snow around 11 p.m. I dressed my wife and we went out for a walk. Even though she did not like the idea at first and I practically had to dress her she later admitted that it was a grate idea and that she was glad that we went out.
Allen, I love the photos of the snowbound bicycle! Could you send or post some more shots of it and or of other such snow covered small but interesting items. Thanx! mischa |
Garth I am so jealous!
Drive that car on down here! ;) |

I am unsure of your request. Do you want the snow covered car, just the snow, or just a companion to your pet Mercedes ("wolf wolf"!)? Please explain. I bet your woods are beautiful right now. For what ever it's worth, I have removed the snow from the car. Garth |

Hi Mischa,
May I belatedly welcome you to the Portrait Artist Forum. I can see already that you are a valuable member here, by your post contributions. Back to topic: Allan and Mischa, is it true that you are getting the after effects of our weekend Level 3 Nor'easter Blizzard? That's fascinating. I hope your weather does not get too severe. Our streets are all melted and clear now. Garth |

We've actually had a laughably mild winter up here (last 2 broke all records (think minus 32 with the windchill)). But that means lots of ice.

I have tried to visit your site but had no luck, I will try again later. The painting in your introduction is very fine. I have no other shots with the bicycle, but here comes some other of my everyday views. Garth, Up until now we have had frost mostly but we expect thaw in the weekend when your front is expected to ashore Denmark. Allan |
Great shots Allan and Janet! We're hunkering down here for our round of severe weather. Yesterday it was 53 degrees outside, I was actually doing some yard work. Today snow, wind, and about 8 degrees. Tomorrow maybe 10" more and blizzard conditions by late afternoon. Saturday, -25 degrees with the wind chill. I have all the paint I need, lots of chocolate, and about 20 panels ready to paint. The cupboard is full of food and lots of wood for the fireplace. This is my kind of weather!

Oh boy... since I mentioned in my post we had blue skies in Brazil, it started raining it seems it will never stop. I think we a Noah here and his ark. At least I don't need so much air conditioning.
