Wow! Everyone watch David Letterman tomorrow night...

I received an email from Stroke of Genius artist Kerri Gibbs. They only called her this afternoon at 2pm! Here's a link to Kerri's pages:

I'm on Dave Letterman this Monday, 28th to paint a quick portrait (during the show) of Dave and Oprah together (from a photograph ) leading up to Oprah being on the show this Thursday!

They chose me from the portrait website "Stroke of Genius."

I am in shock and so nervous, but I just knew it was not something to say no to.

Prayers and Blessings EXTREMELY welcome!

Kerri

Wow, wow, wow!!

Linda Nelson 11-27-2005 10:11 PM

I'm speechless with awe - That is the coolest news in the world!

Kimberly Dow 11-28-2005 12:00 AM

Wow - she HAS to be soooo nervous. I wonder how many of us could do this under that kind of pressure?

I don't know if I get Dave Letterman, but if I do, I'm definitely watching.

Very exciting news.

Congratulations Cynthia, and Kerri!

I will be sure to watch this! This could be great publicity, both for Stroke of Genius and for Kerri. I am praying for you Kerri......

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm just so happy for Kerri. Knowing that my site helps to bring some good publicity or a commission to an artist makes my work so worthwhile.

Jean Kelly 11-29-2005 12:34 AM

Well, I'm off to watch it! Way cool, and congrats all around.

That was nice! Kerri handled herself very professionally, and David Letterman seemed genuinely impressed with her painting in progress. He seems committed to sharing it with Oprah when she visits this Thursday!

I'll keep praying for you Kerri (you're doing just fine).

I just saw it! Kerri did great! And, to get done as much as she did in just an hour. I was glad they kept checking in on Kerri. I was afraid that maybe we'd just see her in the beginning and the end.

I hope they'll let her complete it for Thursday when Oprah is on. I've emailed Kerri and I'm going to ask if she'll come on the Forum and share her experience.

Garth Herrick 11-29-2005 01:58 AM

Cynthia,

That's a great idea! I would also invite David Letterman and Oprah Winfrey to share their experience and reactions to their joint portrait, here at the Forum. Why not!

Garth, you're such a hoot!

Mary Sparrow 11-29-2005 09:11 AM

Oh my! I just watched that. What a Hoot! I have no doubt they will share it with Oprah Thursday. In fact I bet they make a big production out of it with an "unveiling" :D

I would have been a NERVOUS WRECK! Great Job Kerri!!

Kimberly Dow 11-29-2005 09:31 AM

She did handle herself really well - I was looking for hands shaking and didnt spot any shake at all!

Jean Kelly 11-29-2005 01:24 PM

This is such an incredible boost for portraiture! Dave must really be trying to "suck-up" to Oprah. Kerri was great, and had just enough sass in her to fit in perfectly with the Letterman show. I'm sure she will be allowed to complete it and a big deal will be made of it on Thursday. I would have been a total wreck.

I'm still trying to see if Kerri will come over here and post. She's probably still very busy after that show. In the meantime, she wrote the following and sent me a photo:

Thank you so much for your emails and thoughts of support, I could really feel it, it was a wonderful experience and I was pretty calm, also thanks to many years of meditation !

For those who saw it, and the blank canvas to begin with, under that was a lightly sketched canvas that I actually painted on as I really only had 43 minutes to do the painting ! ! !

Dave gave me a little time after the show to finish off their clothing and he did want me to add in a "little Regis Philbin" !

Regis is on the Show tonight, the portrait is now on the set apparently to stay through till Oprah's visit on thursday.

I forgot to sign and photograph it in all the rush, so I popped back today .

I see Kerri got some press:

Really excellent work for such a short time and under such a painfully HUGE audience looking in on her at the same time. WOW! I saw the whole thing happen back then. Just amazing Kerri !! :o

My agenda for this: I personally would LOVE to see you, Kerri, carry this piece out for your normal time frame process in your OWN studio.... to a masterpiece!! ;)
