Congratulations Jimmie for your well deserved best in show award in the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts annual show!

"tracey in blue", is putting you in the pink!

clapclapclap... OK... standingstandingstanding O! ;)

edited to change the uppercase letters in the title, far be it from me to upset the master Jimmie! Garth I just thought it was because he was too lazy to hit the shift key unless required here! ;)

Holy expletive deleted!

Jimmie, this is fantastic news! When is the show happening? I want to be there.

And a wonderful piece to honor too - one of my faves from you. Many, many congratulations!!!

David Draime 05-26-2005 08:17 PM

Mucho deserved...though not a surprise!! :)

Way to go.

Thanks a bunch guys, and thanks Beth for posting it (I felt embarrassed doing so)

The show starts today (May 27th) and runs until July 9th. It's in Mystic, close to where "Mystic Pizza" was filmed. It's a very nice area, the Mystic Arts Center is a nice display house.

I was shocked to hear I won best of show. Because of the area and the people putting the show together, I ass-u-med a landscape or still life, or even a child's portrait would be favored.

I was really just hoping for the $500 pastel prize, but I saw one of Sam Goodsell's pieces there, and figured if it came down to both of ours, he'd win. He's got a name in the pastel world and his stuff is beautiful. I used to look at his work in magazines, and never thought much of it, thought they were rather bland. I had the pleasure of seeing two in person, and they're amazing. This guy can use a piece of chalk!

I'll take pictures at the reception June 2nd and post a few.

I'm 35, but you can be my older sister, like Beth.

Thanks again!

Hi Jimmie,

Your pieces are so fresh and update that nobody beats them. :exclamati

Congratulations, Allan

Isabel Chiang 05-27-2005 09:45 AM

Congratulations Jimmie!

Your work is absolutely wonderful!

Garth Herrick 05-27-2005 04:04 PM

Jimmie, there is no stopping you now! Congratulations for a much deserved win!

Everyone: I can personally attest that this piece is wonderful to see. You see, Jimmie actually drove this pastel loose in the trunk of his car, down to my humble studio back in April. I was overwhelmed to see the real thing. So get out and see his show if you can, because "tracey in blue" (lower case prefered by jimmie) looks even better in person!

Thanks Jimmie for that preview!!

Garth

Congratulations, Jimmie! I am sure this will be one of a long line of winners in your future.

Sharon Knettell 05-27-2005 06:01 PM

Jimmie,

Terrific. I will get a chance to see this as I will be in Mystic during that time. I know EXACTLY where that is as I am from Connecticut and that is near my old summer stomping grounds.

I'll see if I can make the opening!

Heidi Maiers 05-27-2005 11:40 PM

Awesome news Jimmie - and what was this, your FIRST or SECOND pastel ever??!!
Keep these coming and you will be hanging up your tattoo tools for good in no time.

Mary Sparrow 05-28-2005 08:04 AM

Jimmie, CONGRATULATIONS again! It is no suprise to me that you are winning! ;)

Tom Edgerton 05-28-2005 09:23 AM

Jimmie--

Somehow this piece got past me until today....it's jawdroppingly fine.

Congrats on the show.

Thanks so much guys for the comments, they're making it easier to go in to work today.

Almost paid a price for that stunt, came home and had to fix several scratches before I could get it framed!

Sharon, that'll be great if you can make it. You can meet my wife and daughter. You will be sorely disappointed in my mingling skills (I don't have any, I usually hang around in a corner until everything is done :( )

I had done small commissions before, nothing worth writing home. This was my first after getting back seriously into art a couple of years back. The best part is how much I suffered through it, so much so that I almost scrapped this piece. Thank God I did'nt!

Thanks again everyone.

I am so PROUD to say the least, Jimmie!!! It's your time to sing, so please please enjoy the acclaim and keep creating your unique and stunning work. I look forward to seeing your art in person some day when I get to your neck of the woods. How far is Mystic from New York???

Lisa Ober 05-31-2005 12:50 PM

I have been hoping I could come up with some eloquent comment to clearly articulate how impressed I am but nothing happened. So, in no clever way let me congratulate you and applaud you for yet another coup. Genius (you).

Linda Brandon 05-31-2005 06:51 PM

Jimmie, I'm another one who didn't spot this until now... I'm so happy for you! This is a fabulous piece. You are so on a roll!

Jimmie Arroyo 06-01-2005 05:07 PM

Thanks for the new comments.

It took me about two hours to get to Mystic, including traffic. It was much quicker getting back, but I was also driving faster. :o You're always welcome to come visit (with plenty of notice so I can clean up!) My wife is great with bbq's and we just put up a hammock. That invitation is to just about anyone, you know who you are.

The reception is tomorrow, I must be excited about it because I went to the barber by my job. I've been buzzing my own hair since I was 18, and the last time someone else touched my head was when I got married, and that'll be 10 years this August.

Thanks again all.

Carolyn Ortiz 06-03-2005 03:18 AM

Yeah Jimmie!!!

You keep fighting with your your pastels and winning, that's such a huge inspiration!

Cheers, to much more success ahead!

~Carolyn

Jimmie Arroyo 06-03-2005 08:44 PM

Thanks Carolyn, but here's where everything turns wierd!

Jeff Fuchs 06-08-2005 03:48 PM

Congrats, Jimmie!!!

I read your post in the other thread. You had tough competition and you can be proud of your award. I wish they'd had better manners, but they recognized your talent.

If I ever win a competition, I can expect the same. Sometimes I feel like Charlie Brown and Rodney Dangerfield rolled into one.

<lie>You get used to it after the first 45 years.</lie>

Jimmie Arroyo 06-08-2005 06:08 PM

Hey Jeff, good to hear from you. Thanks for the reply, you should hang out more often.
