Kim,
This is the kind of painting you do that I really love. It is more than a portrait and you are taking chances that are paying off. The swirling atmospheric effects work great.

P.S. I also love "The Scarf"

Kimberly Dow 05-01-2005 10:48 PM

Thank you Richard. :D

Claudemir Bonfim 05-02-2005 12:54 PM

You're getting better and better Kim. I loved It.

Kimberly Dow 05-09-2005 10:23 PM

They aren't leaves though - just...color? But hey - glad you like it anyway.

Linda Brandon 05-10-2005 01:07 AM

Just spotted this, Kim. I like this new direction you're taking, the coloring outside the lines feel. Beautiful brushwork, too.

Jimmie Arroyo 05-11-2005 08:52 AM

This is great Kim, I dig the work you've been doing recently with that feeling of intimacy. Sa-weet.

Rob Sullivan 05-11-2005 10:08 AM

I'm with Sharon, as I read the color swashes as leaves, too. And I guess that's not a bad thing, since it works as such.

It feels like we're peeking through a break in the trees at this lovely woman; an Autumnal sylvan mood, I guess. Except that sounds pretentious, while your painting isn't. It's quiet and soft and well done.

Thanks Linda, Jimmie & Rob. I actually thought I had ruined it when I woke up the next day after adding the extreme colors. She has grown on me though....and I'll keep her as is.

Janel Maples 05-11-2005 05:04 PM

As is, is beautiful. Way to go!

Julie Deane 05-11-2005 09:42 PM

Great work, Kim! I love the serenity it portrays.

Elizabeth Schott 05-11-2005 10:06 PM

Wow Kim...it's amazing what a bottle of wine and lots of talent can do for a person!

This turned out great!

Terri Ficenec 05-11-2005 11:34 PM

Hi Kim--
Glad this got churned back up in the new posts list.... I really like this too... though clearly the orange is not painted as leaves... somehow I had the same reaction, it feels as though we are seeing her through autumn branches perhaps it is the suggestion of blue (like sky) in the background? Anyway... I really like the contrasts and how she is so delicately portrayed.

Patricia Joyce 05-12-2005 09:18 AM

She is fresh and beautiful and young. A lovely piece

Kimberly Dow 05-12-2005 10:53 AM

Thanks ladies!

Beth - I edited the post, taking out the part my bottle of wine played, but forgot the email notifications went out. Thanks for reminding me of my headache. ;)
