She is so beautiful Chris, as is the painting .

Sharon Knettell 11-18-2004 07:57 PM

She is just luscious!

Were you able to get her to sit at all or is she at that age when every moment she spends with you is an ENORMOUS favor.

Chris when I saw this title:

I thought it would be another lovely one like the one you did of your son - duh, I didn't know girls could have Bat Mitzvahs!

So what a wonderful surprise opening this to find such a beautiful girl and a painting that does her justice! Beautiful, and I especially love her lips!

Nice skin tones. ;)

Marvin Mattelson 11-19-2004 12:12 AM

I think the most powerful portraits are those where the artist had a personal connection to the subject. Rembrandt's Herman Doomer, Valesquez's Juan Prado and Bouguereau's Gabrielle Cot immediately come to mind.

I think this holds true here as well. One of your best. Mazel Tov.

Michele Rushworth 11-19-2004 12:43 AM

Lovely, Chris! And what a wonderful way to mark such a special occasion.

Linda Brandon 11-19-2004 08:29 AM

A beautiful painting of your beautiful girl. Gosh... I remember when she wouldn't stop putting her fingers in my bird cage. Life comes at you fast.

Another lovely and spirited painting, Chris!

Cindy Procious 11-19-2004 08:59 AM

Beautiful, Chris. She oozes confidence.

Could you post a detail of those hands?

Richard Barnett 11-19-2004 10:11 AM

Great work

Wow I realy like the painting and your style of painting.

Great painting!!
Rick .

Mike McCarty 11-19-2004 10:20 AM

Beautiful painting Chris, great attitude like her mom. She will be leaving for college in 17 minutes.

Kimberly Dow 11-19-2004 10:29 AM

Beautiful bold portrait!

Carol Norton 11-19-2004 11:28 AM

Awe inspiring AND inspirational!

Whew! You MADE IT! Bat Mitzvah celebration and all. Thank you for posting this, Chris. I did so want to see it. The painting of your beautiful girl IS so very powerful. I continue to stand in awe of your work. We do need to celebrate over coffee, however.

Thank you all so much for your comments, they are much appreciated.

Sharon, I paint too slowly to have her sit, although she is happy to model for reasonable lengths of time, and always for photographs...and to wander into the studio when I need to fine -tune color or planes.

Marvin, I do think there is something special about painting a subject with whom there is a close personal connection. Also, painting the same subject many times has a special aspect as well. Thanks for the good wishes.

Here''s a detail of the hands.

Richard Huante 11-19-2004 11:45 AM

A beautiful and inspiring portrait, so full of wonderfulness. I'm glad you posted this to share with all. Awesome, teach!

Sincerely,

Patricia Joyce 11-19-2004 11:47 AM

Beautiful, Chris. I knew instantly, though I have never met you, that she was your daughter!! Great presence and beautifully painted.

Congratulations to you and to your daughter's coming of age!!

Holly Snyder 11-19-2004 12:45 PM

Wow Chris, you've outdone yourself again. Thanks for sharing your beautiful painting.

Thanks for posting these - reminds me of Zorn.

Arrgh. Beautiful.

Now I must go burn my brushes...

Michele Rushworth 11-19-2004 02:11 PM

It amazes me how distinctive (and I suppose, instinctive) the style of certain artists can be. If I was shown this closeup of the hands I would immediately know it was "a Saper".

Henry Wienhold 11-19-2004 09:49 PM

Excellent

A very striking portrait Chris, beautifully done.

Chris Saper 11-19-2004 10:14 PM

Many thanks.

I have really come to love painting teenagers of all ages. At 13 ( as in this painting) she is the last of 'child', and the beginning of the woman she will be. At 17 or 18, she wil be mostly woman, with still part of child.

PS Henry! I miss you around this place!

Ngaire Winwood 11-20-2004 08:25 PM

Wow! Chris what beauty you have portrayed in more ways than words can speak.

I hope to one day attend one of your workshops.

I'm inspired, thank you.

Cynthia Daniel 11-21-2004 09:37 PM

Beautiful, Chris!

Leslie Ficcaglia 11-22-2004 05:02 PM

Chris, that's a lovely painting of your daughter; she looks so mature to be only about to be bat mitzvah, though! Is she really that sophisticated?

I did a line drawing - from life - of my son for his bar mitzvah and used it on the invitations and thank you cards. When it was our daughter's turn she decided she'd rather have a horse.

Chris Saper 11-22-2004 07:56 PM

Thank you again, everyone.

Leslie, I think that every Bat Mitzvah invitation shoud feature a portrait!

For my kids, I printed the portrait on the cover of the service booklet ( I was furiously printing three days prior...)

Ha, can't blame your daughter, she knows she'll still get the portrait :)

And yes, Alexandra is that sophisticated - she was pretty much that way at three.

Ivo, I do not understand what you mean . Can you explain?

Seemann Timusk 11-28-2004 07:27 AM

Background!

Chris,
I think, that you must work only with white-hall(with background),that it must be more sounding. This young lady is very good!

Chris,

What can I say that has not already been said?

Ditto!

She is beautiful.

Terri Ficenec 02-17-2005 02:17 AM

Chris, I think you must have posted this while I was on vacation. .. stumbled across it while looking for a different post. She's beautiful and beautifully done.
