This is a 40x30 I am working on at present, its about 50% done... its all blocked in but now is the define and refine stage which is always the trickiest.

Michele Rushworth 08-24-2004 12:20 PM

I must have missed this when it first went up. I love the color scheme in this painting and the loose brushwork. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed piece!

Janel Maples 08-25-2004 09:49 AM

I have to ditto Michele's response, including the I missed it part.

Hi Tony,

This is a beautiful painting, full of mystery. Congratulations on another lovely painting!

By the way, who is your framer on this one?

Chris Saper 08-27-2004 12:09 AM

Count me in. This piece ( which is what I think of all good paintings) is successful in the abstract.

It would be wonderful to see an extreme closeup of the heads. Lovely painting!

Sharon Knettell 01-26-2005 11:27 PM

Tony,

Beautiful color. I think that is my favorite part of this lovely and well designed painting.

Tony Pro 01-26-2005 11:33 PM

Thanks

This painting will be at the First Annual International Guild of Realism Exhibition at the Pan American Gallery in Dallas, Texas. The show runs from March 11th to April 23rd.

Tony,

This is a wonderfully inviting painting, and so satisfying in every nook and corner to savor. I love it's painterliness, and agree with all the above praise from everyone else. Please give us some details to fill our appetites. We are hungry for closeups.

Your talent is awesome. I just enjoyed your website, and noticed everyone in your family is extraordinarily talented too. Not a surprise!

Your movie trailer is fantastic. Is that actually circulating in theatres?

Congratulations!

Garth

Tony Pro 01-27-2005 01:40 PM

Thanks for the kind words. I am getting some photography lighting equipment this week so I will get some good closeups to post.

I wish they would circulate that trailer in theaters.... not enough sex in it though!!! ;-)

First, your name fits you well. This work resounds with professionalism. I see you have a well developed sense of composition. I also see some educated, practiced brush-handling. Your work would fit in in Santa Fe and Scottsdale.

The couple of remarks I have are possibly a result of the jpeg quality only but here's what I see on my PC. I wonder about values. To be specific-the darks in th distance should not be as dark as those up close. I think you might have seen a bit of warm color bounced up into the roof/porch. Additionally, there might well have been some form indicated even in the darkest parts of the dark robe in the fore as this work is outside essentially and light must bounce about. Wilson Hurley lectured me on this not too long ago.

I really do like the work and I'm reminded of Mian Situ and Ron Ricks, the CAA. I think I have his name right.

Old Man

Tony, did you post that old man that's on your website? It's really very good.

Denise Hall 02-05-2005 11:45 PM

Tony,

I am so glad to see this finished - I knew it would be a beautiful painting from the start. I especially like the darks in the front - you have handled all the values so well. The subject is also one I am interested in - I have to go there first, to take some pictures to paint from though!

Sincerely,

Denise

Tim

Which painting of the Old Man?

Tony

Tim

Thanks so much from your compliments.

Painting is my passion and the quest to seek professionalism is my goal.

Best
Tony

White beard

The man with the white beard. Wonderful.

Elizabeth Schott 02-07-2005 07:53 PM

Beautiful Tony! I too would love to see some close ups. :)

This is the best I can do as the original is in a gallery in Connecticut...

Hope this is close enough....

Well

Tony, I really like this one too but I was referring to a diffrent one on your website. This is a lovely "artists' painting"-meaning one at least other artists would admire if not everyone.

Tony Pro 02-08-2005 09:06 PM

Hmmm

Hmmm.... I have 2 other paintings of Cliff on there... one where he is holding a staff... or the other is just a head... which one?

Tony

Chris Saper 02-08-2005 10:33 PM

Tony,

This is an extraordinary painting! I encourage you to post it in its own thread.

Your portrait is of a man I would want to meet, and whose face I would want to touch. Absolutely terrific.

Linda Brandon 02-09-2005 12:35 AM

Hi Tony,

I ditto what Chris said. That single stroke of lavender in the beard is such a nice touch.

Timothy C. Tyler 02-09-2005 08:32 PM

Wow, those are great. I don't know why, but I always love paintings of old men with beards.

Chris Saper 02-09-2005 09:55 PM

Tony, these are fabulous, and worthy of separate theads. I wish they were in my house:) instead of wherever they are.

Would you like me to try to post them separately for you?

Garth Herrick 02-09-2005 10:33 PM

Tony, I REALLY like these. I am wondering, are they quite as dark in value range as they appear in these posts? I like the sense of mystery and the sparkling highlights the dark range of values impart.

Garth

The St. Benedict painting is very dark... I did it under a really bright light and then I came out in normal light and it was really dark... but there is mystery to it. St. Benedict was a hermit and lived in caves so its suites its purpose.

Sure if you think it warrants it.
