Son John on Average Joe!!!!

1 Attachment(s)
To all my Portrait Friends,

I wanted to let you know that my son, John Baumgaertner, will be featured tonight on the new reality program, "Average Joe" on NBC, at either 9 or 10:00, depending on your time zone. Some of you have been asking me to let you know when it would be on....the wait has been long, (since April), but the time in finally here!

John is featured prominently in this episode, and will also be featured in an article about the show in People Magazine, on newsstands Friday. "Average Joe" will be on NBC for six weeks, but because it is an elimination show, we don't know how long John will be on it. ( I think he will be on for a while....)

Please, please, please drop a note to the web sites listed below. We'd like to get a "buzz" on John, and he is so very buzz worthy.

Below, John's announcement. Thanks!

STRAIGHT TO THE POINT!
I (John Baumgaertner) am going to be ridiculed and humiliated on National television,
and I want YOU to take part in the festivities! Tonight (Nov. 3rd) NBC will be airing
the first episode of "AVERAGE JOE", a reality series where 16 not-so-hot guys use charm
and personality to try to win over an ex-NFL cheerleader. You gessed it, I'm one of the
not-so-hot guys. Ah well, let the shame begin!
Anyway, depending on where you are in the United States, It'll be on at 9 or 10 PM. For
all of my foreign friends, I hope it does well over here in the US, so they can sell it
overseas. So, make sure to check it out (who knows, I may only make it one episode, and
THEN wouldn't you feel bad about missing it.!)

Anyway, along with the publicity shot of myself and Melana striking a pose, here are some
links you might enjoy.

Post a thread if ya like (or see what other people have written) So far- not much has
been posted on me, so go nuts with whatever you're feelin', good, bad, sad, mad, glad or
(dare I say) rad:

What's the show about, anyway? Well, check it out for yourself:

Once again, in all honesty, NBC is really pushing this show HARD (sweeps week in the
fall season...it doesn't get any bigger). And, this could be my chance to actually make
a crack into the entertainment industry in this god-forsaken city (Hollywood, CA). So,
please, let anyone who might be interested in the show know that you know one of the
"Joes". If you have a chance, send some of these links out to anyone you know! And tell
them to enjoy the show tonight!

Thanks, I sincerely can't do it without you!

Darn, Peggy. I got home too late. Is it a series that will be on again next week?

Mary Sparrow 11-04-2003 10:41 AM

Linda Brandon 11-04-2003 08:04 PM

Peggy, I just read this. This is very exciting! He gets my vote and I'll stay tuned. Thanks for posting this.

Peggy Baumgaertner 11-04-2003 08:19 PM

THANKS ALL!!!

We saw the show last night, and it is very cute. This Mom has found nothing unsetting (yet....).

We just found out that the show will be repeated at 9/8 PM on NBC on Saturday.

Stay tuned!

Peggy, is this one where the "winner" gets-to/has-to marry the woo-ee?

Stacey McEwen 11-05-2003 03:15 PM

I never fail to get sucked in to these types of shows, and this one appears to be no exception...

Peggy - you must be proud of John! I thought he presented himself very well on the first episode, and came off as intelligent and mature in the midst of a group containing a number of far more immature guys :)

Hopefully he'll be on for a while! Do you really not know how long he lasted - are they not allowed to tell anyone?

Peggy Baumgaertner 11-07-2003 01:52 PM

Stacy,

I really don't know. I know nothing! The producers told my husband last night that we should not have the press over on Monday night because that episode is "heart wrenching...), and they are afraid of our reaction.

Whoa...

Steven, You know, they don't make the participants promise to do anything, which is kind of weird in a way for these kind of show.

They don't have to get engaged, get married, live with each other for a year, live with each other for a week, they don't get a million dollars, a hundred thousand dollars, a trip to Japan.

They basically get nothing, and have nothing promised to them if they win. So what exactly do they win? I haven't figured that out yet. At the end of the show, Melala doesn't even have to DATE the guy that wins, let alone marry him.

But she doesn't have to eat worms, so it's not so bad.

The ones who get rejected can go on "Queer eye for the average Joe", then see how the new improved contestants fare in competing for a different woman.

I'm not sure how John qualified for this show. He seems like more of a catch than most of the others*. Let's face it, if Jeff Fuchs can catch a classy, intelligent woman, how hard can it be?

*Disclaimer: I only watched the first few minutes. I tuned out shortly after John was introduced. Still, he made a good impression.

Congratulations Peggy!

I do, however, have a petty gripe about these 'Average Joes': It appears most of them, your son included, are not really 'average' at all, but are in fact, very handsome young men. Since it's supposed to be an average guy wooing the Prom Queen, why do none of the supposedly 'Average Joes' look like myself, Jeff Fuchs, or maybe Steven Sweeney? :D

Perhaps we could audition for 'Scarey Joe'?

Minh
