Dog's Day

When CNN used my courtroom sketch days ago, I felt that I'm a lucky dog.

Elizabeth Schott 06-05-2003 08:41 PM

Congratulations SB, I wish you could post a copy of it!

Cynthia Daniel 06-06-2003 12:23 PM

Congralations! What trial was this?

Sketch from memory

Thank you, Beth! Admire you, Cynthia!

It was the Rudolph trial. Although I've done over 8,000 sketches, including portrait sketches from pictures of all presidents of the U.S. for 2.5 min. each while I was at the Imperial Palace Museum, but did fewer sketches from memory. As for Beth's wish, I'll post another sketch later.
Please allow me to quote from President of the former Chinese Artists Association Jiang Feng's writing about Dong Chen Sheng, a well-reputed artist, my teacher:
Quote:

In spite of full workdays as art editor, he has produced close to ten thousand works in the last two decades--not to mention innumerable sketches...he does not resort to live models, but paints almost exclusively from memory...a fertile imaginaton of course plays some part in his ability to draw or paint without live models, but more important are his love for and close observation of life, a vast accumulation of mental impressions , good grasp of the laws and techniques of character portrayal, erudition in the art of painting and exceptional industry. These are also the source of the rich flavor of life in his works, and the foundations of his personal style.

Thanks

Dear Linda:

I visited your website. Your winning piece is admirable. I'm deeply moved by your kindness. I have learned a lot from SOG-- much obliged to dear Cynthia, whose tireless effort erects a monument, for all of us, and which her name is carved on. While trying to write, I'd like to learn more from you.

SB Wang 12-04-2003 12:13 PM

Dear Cynthia:
I'll send the sketch of figure skating to you, and a few lines:

Not far from Disney World,
There is a nice lady,
When people pass through her living room,
Always turn back, enjoying the beauty.

'cause she helps to make boys laugh,
'cause she helps to keep girls pretty,
"We all love you Cynthia!"
Sayd momy and dady.

'cause her merry-go-round,
Many artists have a merrier holiday,
Together with Cynthia,
We are building another World after Disney!
;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Dear Mr. Sanden:
I read your book "Successful Portrait Painters" again, and thanks for your teaching. Robert Bruce Williams told me that he studied with you for eight summers.
Also, being a member of NYSOPA, helped me a lot.

Dear Mr. Robert Bruce Williams:
Ten years ago, a week with you worths a of ten year's learning. You deserve a poem, no, you are a poem! Mao described a senior comrade He Shuhen as "a pile of SENTIMENT", Then you are a pile of passion. "We praise the fanatic spirit of warriors!" a slogan on the banner of the army of Soviet Union. Such is the phrase I praise you.

Another Dog Year

Back In 1994, a dog year, I ran like a dog.
I had an opportunity to publish my works, some of those were under the direction of Chinese master He Kongde (1925-2003), whom I visited at his final moment.
