Charcoal and NuPastel on toned Canson
1 Attachment(s)
Charcoal is a great choice for open studio, at least for me, because I can never get very close to finishing in oil.
Even here, I would have liked a little more time to deal with my edges, and some of the more subtle values around the lips. Image size is approximately 18" x 14". |
Beautiful work, Chris. How long was this sitting?

Beautiful! What elegant lines.
I love how selective you are with your lines, especially the economy you've used to define the gesture of the graceful neck and shoulder. And you've captured the model's glowing complexion.... |
Questions
Hi Chris, this is beautiful. What shade Canson is this? What colors of NuPastel did you use? Your drawing style is very distinctive and confident.

Thank you all, kindly.
I think the paper is the Felt Gray, Mi-Tientes by Canson. It's a very nice warm gray, although you certainly can't tell with my posted image! I use a vine charcoal stick, kneaded eraser, tortillon and white NuPastel. When I have the time (in my studio), I will spray a little fixative on the charcoal before adding the NuPastel because the white seems to disppear a bit when sprayed. I didn't have the luxury here in open studio (about 3 hours BTW), but certainly could, and then restate the whites, but I don't see any reason to. |
Very fresh and lovely. Love the lighting. :)

Beautiful Chris.

Just lovely
I missed this first time around, but was curious where you were drawing and if this is a local model or friend. She looks familar...is it possibly Angela? I have not seen her in a while but the face is very familiar and done with real skill.

Charming
I love economy in drawing-good example!

Thank you, all.
Debra, it could be Angela, I just don't recall her name, but she modeled at the Scottsdale Artist School, so you may have painted her, too. |
Here is my oil of her, maybe?

This is an older piece that I think may be the same model. Do we look familiar?
|
Lovely! Very nice. For sure they are the same model. I really like the looseness of the brush strokes.
