Thank you for that bit of information Anne. It's one of the few things that I do that I am pretty firmly attached to. It's good to know that there is a word for it.

Hi Linda,
I love this portrait. The pose and moment you captured is excellent. I especially like the lighting. It almost looks like she is sitting in front of a fire?? Is that true? If so, I wonder what the painting would look like had you used more yellow, orange tinted lighting to give it more of a fire/warm feel instead of white light? Just a thought. What do you think?? -John |
Sara,
I like this painting very much. Your style is distinctive, the pose is creative, and the drawing outstanding. Very impressive. I could not download the image to demonstrate but suggest you consider several changes: The dark background shape on our left crowds the face and makes it look as though her nose is inches from the edge of the canvas. Continuing the light background, for example, might be a better option. My other concern is the lower part of the canvas where the legs are crowded into the painting. They are not as well drawn as the rest of the painting and the composition may be better off with a continuation of the gown. Again. A very distinctive effort. |
Thank you all very much for your kind words and honest crtique. I will keep your thoughts in mind when I work on it some more.
