Aside from the obvious, excellent technical ability, this painting has a very strong visual impact. I like the expression on the cherub

Garth,
sorry for the delay, I was busy in Toronto
( http://forum.portraitartist.com/show...?t=7071&page=2 )

Yes you're right, the baby is real, but you're wrong, it's not a little guy ! It's my second daughter, who was 18 months at that time ( It will be her second birthday tomorrow : she doesn't no more consider herself like a baby !)
I would not have been able to create that from imagination, maybe in some years ( 20, 30 ?)
Even if it's a portrait of my daughter, I wanted the painting to be a sort of idealization of a baby, it could be any baby.
Thanks for the comment.

Linda, Cindy, Carlos,
Thank you. Yes I think this painting has a "strong visual impact " as you said, Carlos, because lots of people who saw it once, speak about it after...

Dear Marina,

My foot is in my mouth; I was going by the ordinary conventions of relative hair length, which means nothing at a baby's age! Oops! She is lovely, real, and cute!

Congratulations to you for such an adorable, inspiring daughter! You are right that she could represent any baby in this painting's context, as an ideal. I'll echo Cindy that this is a hugely successful painting, and hope this inspires more to come.

Garth
