Free - Adobe "LightRoom" for Windows

Adobe LightRoom Beta* for Windows

Up until today the Beta of Adobe's new digital photography application, Lightroom, was Mac only. Adobe has now posted the Windows beta of Lightroom free for anyone to download and test (note that if you haven't previously you will need to set up a userid at Adobe). Lightroom is a workflow and editting application which takes all of the useful photography related stuff from Photoshop and combines this with a sophisticated importation, browsing and organizational front-end.

I have just done the download and it looks pretty slick from my brief look see. If you wish to do the download you can do so here:

http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/

* "Beta" usually means that the software product is less than fully tested. It is common for a software manufacturer like Adobe to give their Beta versions away in the hopes to have the public, and thus a broader sampling of users, participate in the final testing of the product before general distribution.

I haven't had much time to fiddle with it, but it printed OK for me.

Also, this Beta software will expire some day.

This Beta stuff is not going to get you the full long lasting enchalada (or bratwurst), but it will give you a good look at the product.

Mike,
Is this a de Laszlo ?
I had the pleasure of seeing an exhibition of his paintings, in a private collection in Amsterdam, this spring. He style is somewhere between Boldini and Sargent, very elegant and paints extremely fast (I saw old movies of him painting) The quality is closer to Sargent than to Boldini.

Indeed it is.

La Contessa Annade Noaill by Philip Alexius de Laszlo.

And another, this one could be posted and studied for what it brings to a two person composition. Could their be anything more elegant than the one above? Both are favorites of mine.

Mike,
Thank you for posting this topic.
It's a very interesting program! I just finished download and had a little bit of time to play with it. Impressive! Very visual and not complicated to use.
I tried to print and didn't experience any problems.
Also thank you for posting example of work by Laszlo
I never came across his works before. He is terrific!!! http://www.artrenewal.org/asp/database/art.asp?aid=875

Mischa,
I would suggest downloading program again. Sometimes reinstall can be the solution. Just make sure you download it to your hard drive first before running the installation and close out from all other programs. New programs have tendency to have glitches like you described.

Allen, I was about to ask you where you found the videos of Laszlo when I figured I better google it myself first. Thought you (and anyone else) might be interested in this little gem:

You are right--he is very fast. This video is pretty instructive of how he sets up his light and model, too. Interesting.
