Nikon D200

Have any of you got the new Nikon D 200 yet and can tell me how it's going especially with portraits. I've ordered one but it hasn't arrived yet. I've never had any sort of SLR camera before. What I've had is the Nikon 5700 so it will be a new experience for me. I hope it greatly improves the photographic references for my paintings.

Pamela:

A digital SLR with over 10mp - I think you will be thrilled. Especially with it's low light capabilities compared to your 5700. Here is a side by side comparison with it's predecessor the D100. The D100 was (and still is, hay Garth) a terrific camera and yet the D200 surpasses it in every category.

I don't have any direct experience with this new camera. I will be pointing my D70 for many years to come.

Thanks Mike,
That information was very encouraging. My photographer friend also advised me to get the 18 to 200 anti- vibration lens as it will be useful to take pictures of tiny children whilst playing as I find using a tripod of any size often restrictive. I am also looking forward to being able to crop in without losing so much definition.

Pamela! Did you ever get your D200 up and running?! I just got mine last week and it's terrific!!!! The best photo reference potential ever, for me.

I have posted some pics and impressions on the New camera releases thread, nearby......

I'm happy.

Garth

Yes Garth. My D200 is fantastic especially with the antivibration lens. Now I'm looking to upgrade my photoshop to CS2 to process the raws and also an 8 color Epson ink jet printer. No good having a great camera without a great printer. I do find the new camera a little heavy to carry around after having had a coolpix 5700, though I can't complain with the superb increase in quality.
