Derk Hanson, Wildlife Artist
Hi, all.
Thanks for the critiques on this painting. I've made the changes and actually remembered to sign the thing (I always forget)!
Derk is a wildlife artist, and (obviously) here he is in his studio. This painting is approx. 36" x 42". Thanks for letting me share it.
(Question: when I submit something for critique, then finish it, should I just be adding it to my existing thread in the critique section?)
Linda
Thanks, Mike McCarty, for the help...

Dear Linda,
In answer to your question, you should post the finished painting here. I will place a link in the other thread for you.
For readers here, you can see the earlier dialogue at: http://forum.portraitartist.com/show...&threadid=2544
Very well done!

I love this painting
Dear Linda,
I get a real feel for the character of this man from this painting. This is a strong, ambitious piece - good for you for making it so big!
Congratulations on a job well done.
Best regards,
Linda

Linda,
This is a wonderful painting! I love the depth of field and use of light in the painting. It succeeds on many levels. Has your wildlife artist friend seen the painting yet? He would have to be so pleased (how could he not be?)!

Thanks
Thanks so much Linda and Chris and Valerie!
Yes, Valerie I showed to him last weekend. I'm one who really looks at a client's first reaction. As he is a painter himself I was especially nervous. But he had a great smile come over his face, and his first words were that he didn't realize he was so handsome, which I took as a good sign.
Thanks again,
Linda

Beautiful
I love how you draw the viewer towards the center of interest. However, I wish I could see the painting in person to let me eyes wander over all the surrounding carefully rendered objects. It has such atmosphere and is very calming.
Regards,
Holly

Hi
Thanks so much Holly and Margaret,
It's such a shot in the arm to have your encouragement! Holly, yes, it is fun to look at the little stuff in the painting. It's always fun in my opinion to get a glimpse of others' spaces - there's humidifiers and fans and busts and proportion wheels and...hopefully all of it subdued enough that you'd really have to stop and analyze to see them.
Thanks so much,
Linda

That's a wonderful painting, Linda; it says so much more about the subject than the usual portrait, and the atmosphere is so rich. I agree that it would be great to be able to wander through the room visually and see all the details you've included. Brava!
