You can also get tubes from Pearl, large or small. I use them extensively, since I mix my white and a few of my other regular palette as well as occasional colors.
I don't recommend you to mix that miraculous retarder-sworn-to-secrecy when you tube paint either. The jury's still out on oil of cloves, even though many professionals, among them John Howard Sanden, use it. I have used it in the past but wouldn't now for conservation reasons-- I've heard from other good sources it's not wise.
I do use Gamblin Galkyd slow-drying medium at times in certain stages of my painting and it seems to work quite well, even though it doesn't quite provide the reworking time of oil of cloves, and certainly, from what you say, of the medium you use. Would your friend consider sharing this wonder with the world?
