I need more advice to grow in the portrait world.

This one is oil on 36"x36" canvas.

These are two very nice portraits -and they compliment each other very well. My only suggestion would be to perhaps soften the wrinkles a bit. But I think you've already made delivery?

I was curious, though, as to why you have painted them so incredibly large? I can only imagine the effect they must have on the viewer - to be so imposing. Perhaps the client requested this size? Are they to hang on a very large wall?

This painting must have quite an impact at this size, and cropped as tightly as it is! It's very well done, too.

The only comment I would make is that the skintones are too uniformly warm and need some cool shadows. It would appear from the shadow pattern that the subject is standing in direct sunlight. This would make the shadow areas much cooler than they are depicted here. Otherwise, this is a very powerful painting! Nice job.

Yes, I delivered it already. It's too late to correct. But he liked his wrinkles anyway . Actually, Roger Cairns was my former painting instructor, and he suggested that I paint in a large size and focus on the face for a more impactful and contemporary feeling. He wants me to try even double the size of these paintings in the future.

I think Jen explains well about the large square size of these in my "Mrs. Holly Cairns" posting section. I agree with her opinion.

Michelle, I think it's too warm too. I used little bit of ultramarine blue for shadow side, but it was not cool enough. I'll not be afraid of depictions of cool shadows for my future paintings.

And I tried to edit this photo color as Cynthia gave me the tip for "Holly Cairns". Is this better?
