Day Dreaming
Hi to all! I'm fairly new here and a little nervous about a critique, but I need some advice and opinions about my work. I posted this portrait in the Introduction area, but I didn't get any replies. Maybe I'll have better luck here.
This is a pastel portrait of my daughter, Brianna, in one of her more innocent moments. It is about 8"x 8" on pastel paper.
Please feel free to critique away. I would really appreciate it!

Dianna,
Normally you won't get a critique in the Intro section. I'm sure you'll get some response here. But, don't get nervous if it takes some time. We are a small Forum, people get busy and some are away for the holidays. It's been very quiet the last few days, in fact.

To add to what Cynthia said:
The moderators of this Forum have asked that critiques be made primarily by those who are qualified to make them. This makes sense, because otherwise you'd get a long string of compliments, but no real critiques of value to you.
I don't feel qualified to critique your work, since your level of skill is much greater than mine. There's nothing I can tell you that you don't already know.
But I do think you did a beautiful job with this portrait (see, that didn't help you a bit).
I think you have a lot to offer this Forum. I'm looking forward to your next post.

Thank You
Jeff,
Thank you so much for your response. I appreciate anyone's opinion. Especially if they are not part of my family (they always say my work is good).
I would love to see your work. Do you have any posted?
Thanks again,
Dianna

Dianna,
I see a couple of things that might improve this very nice painting. First, I would give this little girl something to rest her arm on. Give the idea, or illusion, that she is resting on something -- a pillow, a blanket. This would give her a more grounded feel and also separate her from the background.
Secondly, I would try to integrate her hair a little more with the background. The edges of her hair are a little sharp and are giving a bit of a cut-out appearance.
The little girl's face is very well done.

Dianna,
I've posted a couple of things that I later regretted. Sometimes I don't realize what the drawing looks like until I've got it online. I hate seeing that big zero in the response column.
Look for my posts in the open studio forum.

I'll post something (hopefully) in the near future.
