Hi Piety,

I like your self-portrait, it has a very introspective feel to it. Who is the image of in the background? Are the whites and darks accurately represented in your photo? It's a hard to judge with the dark stripe across the top and the yellowish tint of the photo. I think that softening the edge of shoulder on the left and darkening/adding some modeling to the shirt (particularly the lower left area of your photo) would help bring more attention to your face.

Regards,

Holly

Hi, Holly!

Holly, thank you for your very helpful comments. I tried to express my internal feeling onto the portrait. Background is part of another portrait of mine.

The photo does not represent the actual portrait well. I think yellowish lighting was part of the problem. I tried to adjust the color. I hope it looks better now.

I left blank the lower-left side of the shirt on purpose. But I will try to soften the edge of the shoulder and will post it again later.

Piety, this is very nice. You have a good control over edges, which is what drawing is all about, in my opinion.

I have only one suggestion regarding your left (our right) nostril. It is too light - squint down and it should virtually disappear into the shadow.

Terrific piece.

Adjusted!

Holly, Cindy and all:

I just have adjusted the drawing a little bit. I tried to darken my left nostril and soften a bit my right shoulder. I took a picture again but the photo is still not effective, Hope it looks better. Thank you for your comments.
