Portraits Inc bought by Portrait Brokers

The agency "Portrait Brokers of America" has recently announced the purchase of the New York City based agency "Portraits Inc", after its long time owner Marian McKinney passed away last summer. This is very big news in the portrait world!

Which brings to my a question I have. I was trying to find portrait artists in this part of Ohio and looked at the list from Portrait Brokers of America. Not one of the names on the Ohio list could be found ANYWHERE on the internet, except one who had passed away. Do artists often advertise with aliases?

Michele can you explain what implications this merger might have in the portrrait world? Thank you.

I don't know of any artists who paint under pseudonyms. Some artists get all their commissions through agencies and don't have websites of their own.

As for the implications of the acquisition of Portraits Inc, I guess we'll have to see how everything works its way out.

Hi Pat,

I continue to be surprised that so many very active portrait artists still don't have websites -some don't even have email yet! If you want to connect with other Ohio artists, you might contact your state Ambassador for the Portrait Society of America.

Of course, no one knows what the acquisition will mean, but I think it is very exciting, and is likely to prove a brilliant strategic move for Portrait Brokers.
