Met Timothy Tyler last week ...

After bugging Tim for the last couple winters with an unending barrage of beginner questions, and after having him pitch in on various forums when I'd get stuck or off track, I finally got to meet him last week for lunch when he came for a workshop in Raleigh.

He's the first artist I've met in person from these fora and I thought I'd post a quick note in appreciation for his help. He was unbelievably gracious and allowed me sit in on his composition lecture before treating me to Thai food next door to Jerry's Artarama. I found him very warm, humorous, and approachable, as did the class obviously.

It was a very pleasent experience and I hope to meet more of you folks who suffer my self-taught beginner pleas.

Minh

And for Steven ... if you're ever in my neck of the woods I certainly owe you dinner.

I'll be in your neck of the woods in November. Remember I told you my wife had a cousin in Raleigh? Well, he's marrying the girl we introduced him to, so we're going to the wedding.

We'll drop in to see yer mommerinem.

...Thanks Minh, you reminded me of someone whose presence I really liked here. Tim got BANNED for a month from this forum after disagreeing with a certain someone. I couldn't believe it. Tim is one of the best and most talented people I met here. No wonder he's not coming back.

Tim is a sweetheart and a very generous teacher. We both are in a show that opens May 1st in San Antonio and I believe he is coming here that weekend. For all the email questions I have hounded him with - my husband and I owe him dinner!

Sure, there are disagreements, and that's a shame. But, I personally am grateful for the computer and this forum (as well as others) for letting me communicate with such talent. I hope to meet some of the other members someday also. Speaking of which - STEVEN, when are you getting to Uvalde? We started a Uvalde Visual Arts League and will have our first show at my studio April 24th. Free wine!

Hey Jeff ... ya'll have to come on by the house if'n ya get up here. Or I'll come to Raleigh and show ya the sites (my hometown). And tell ya momern'em we said "Hey!".

About Tim, I don't know anything about all that other stuff. I just know he is handy with a brush, an awesome teacher, and a heck of a nice guy. A rare combination, as near as I can tell from my two brief years of involvement with art..

I didn't know he'd been banned. I guess I've been living in my own little world. I saw the warning for misconduct, so I knew something had happened.

If a real artist can be banned, I'd better keep lurking. I'm opinionated as it is. Opinionated and untalented.. I don't stand a chance.

I hope he's doing well, and if anyone knows what forums he's frequenting, please let me know.

He is doing great - won a bunch of awards for the first ARC competition. He frequents Goodart on Yahoo and Cowdisley on Yahoo.

I've missed Tim's posts lately, but didn't know why he wasn't participating. I figured he was busy with his projects. Tim is a great topic starter and a fine artist. He always illustrates his points with images; usually worth a thousand words at least. There are a number of forum members whose posts I nearly always read, and Tim is one of them.

Minh, a while back Tim was doing an art function in San Juan Capistrano, and he invited me to swing by and visit if I had the time. Well, California ain't Rhode Island, and it would have been about a 500 mile swing each way, so I didn't do it. Sounds like I should have

The rules of conduct for the Forum are clearly posted. We do not allow personal attacks on other members. Unfortunately, because of repeated violations on the part of certain members, over time, we have been forced to become more strict in enforcing the rules. There are only a very few members that have caused upsets in the past and when it happens there is a huge ripple effect and consumes much time for everyone, taking valuable time away from important and gainful work. It's nothing personal. I like Tim and his work also.
