I was delighted (to put it mildly) to come across this article on Raphael's early work, and which I'm sure many of the artists here may have read:

It talks about his frequent use of glass powder over the panel and mixed in with various colours. Does anyone know of artists working with this powder today?

Modernism has been a first love, but Raphael is quickly becoming a huge and huge inspiration for me. I was very surprised the other day to find one of my favorite works, the Alba Madonna was not in Italy, but Washington.

p.s. While making notes on the materials and pigments I came across another article. Not everyone is in agreement as to whether Raphael painted "The Madonna in the Pinks". It may not be his best work and is an early piece, but the colours are quite beautiful. Perhaps one day they will be able to date it and the debate will be resolved:
