I've pondered the same question regarding framing the 9-11 portraits. I'm leaning toward framing the painting myself. I'm thinking that since the financial situation of the recipient is unknown, the possibility exists that framing could put a burden on the family. Because of this the portrait could go unframed or with a "ready-made" that does nothing for it. I really prefer knowing that the painting is framed properly; therefore I'm thinking of making a gift of the frame too. If you prefer not to purchase the frame, one possibility would be to approach a local framer in your town and explain the project. Perhaps the framer would be willing to donate a frame.

Just a thought.
